How did Go Hyun-jung's character in 'Mantis: The Killer's Outing' begin her first murder?

SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'Mantis: The Killer's Outing' premiered on the 5th and has already surpassed a 10% viewership rating by its second episode, promising a successful run.

The explosive response to 'Mantis' from the first week can be attributed to the overwhelming presence of legendary actress Go Hyun-jung. She plays the role of Jung Yi-shin, a serial killer known as 'Mantis' who brutally murders five men suspected of violence against women or child abuse. Go Hyun-jung's transformation in appearance, expressions, and gaze has captivated audiences every time she appears on screen.

To the world, Jung Yi-shin is a ruthless serial killer, but to her son Cha Soo-yeol (played by Jang Dong-yoon), she is a figure of lifelong hatred. Yet, to some, she is an object of reverence. In episodes 1 and 2 of 'Mantis: The Killer's Outing', Seo Gu-wan (played by Lee Tae-gu), a prime suspect in a copycat crime, idolizes Jung Yi-shin with a fanatical devotion. What drove Jung Yi-shin to commit murder?

On the 12th, ahead of the third episode, the production team of 'Mantis' released scenes depicting Jung Yi-shin's first murder. In the photos, Jung Yi-shin is seen outside her home late at night, looking around with a visibly anxious expression. In the next image, her white dress is splattered with bright red blood, raising questions about the source. Blood is also seen flowing from a well she leans against. The final image shows Jung Yi-shin, covered in blood, with a maniacal smile, making it impossible to look away.

Regarding this, the 'Mantis' production team stated, "In today's (12th) episode, the truth behind Jung Yi-shin's first murder, a figure of both hatred and reverence, will be revealed. It was a challenging scene requiring the full range of emotions and energy, and actress Go Hyun-jung delivered an astonishing performance that left us in awe. We ask for your continued interest and anticipation."

The moment Jung Yi-shin became the notorious serial killer 'Mantis', along with the reasons for her first murder, will be unveiled in episode 3 of SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'Mantis: The Killer's Outing', airing at 9:50 PM.
