Kang Dong-won Expresses Delight in Teaming Up with Jun Ji-hyun for Disney+ Series 'Tempest'
On September 2, a press conference for 'Tempest' was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Saemunan-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by directors Kim Hee-won and Heo Myung-haeng, along with cast members Jun Ji-hyun, Kang Dong-won, Lee Mi-sook, Park Hae-joon, Kim Hae-sook, Yoo Jae-myung, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-hee, and Joo Jong-hyuk.
'Tempest' follows the story of Seo Mun-joo, a former UN ambassador who decides to run for president after her husband, a leading presidential candidate, is shot. She is protected by Baek San-ho, a mysterious special agent, as they uncover a massive truth threatening the Korean Peninsula.
Jun Ji-hyun plays Seo Mun-joo, who is determined to uncover the truth behind her husband Jang Jun-ik's assassination attempt. Kang Dong-won takes on the role of Baek San-ho, a special agent with no nationality who becomes Seo Mun-joo's bodyguard.
Kang Dong-won described his character, Baek San-ho, as a lonely and contemplative individual who undergoes a transformation after meeting Seo Mun-joo, deciding to protect her at all costs. He noted, "Initially, San-ho displays cold action, but gradually, his actions reflect his growing feelings for Mun-joo."
Kang also participated as a producer for 'Tempest'. He modestly stated, "I didn't do much, just helped out here and there, like treating foreign actors to good food."
Returning to drama after 20 years, Kang Dong-won shared, "I chose this project because of Jun Ji-hyun. We strangely never crossed paths before, so I'm glad we finally got to work together."
Filming for 'Tempest' took place from March to November 2024. Kang remarked, "I'm used to long shoots, having filmed movies for 8-9 months before, so it wasn't difficult. The daily shooting volume was just a bit more, but I didn't feel much difference."
Both Jun Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won praised each other. Jun Ji-hyun said, "I've been a long-time fan of Kang Dong-won. I chose this project because I wanted to work with him. Getting to know him during the shoot made me an even bigger fan. His portrayal of San-ho brought more synergy to my role as Mun-joo." Kang responded, "I was completely captivated by Ji-hyun's charm during filming. Her constant cheerful demeanor on set made the experience enjoyable. Throughout the shoot, I kept thinking, 'This person is truly amazing.'"
'Tempest' is set to premiere on Disney+ on the 10th.
