Korean Announcer Kim Jae-won Opens Up About Longing for His Late Mother

Korean announcer Kim Jae-won has candidly shared his deep longing for his mother, who passed away during his childhood.

On the 28th, the YouTube channel 'Lee Hye-sung's 1% Book Club' featured a video titled "A Long Farewell to My Mother Who Left When I Was 13: 'An Old Grief' and 'Mother's Face'."

In the video, Kim Jae-won reflects on his childhood experiences, expressing the emotions he felt when he couldn't properly say goodbye to his mother.

Kim revealed, "My mother passed away when I was just 13. I spent my teenage years without her, and at that age, I didn't know how to let her go," adding, "It was a task too heavy for the sensitivity of a 13-year-old boy."

He also mentioned that at the age of 28, his mother-in-law, who became part of his family, filled the long-standing void left by his mother. Through conversations with his wife and sisters-in-law about his mother-in-law, he learned about mourning and longing.

Kim Jae-won honestly confessed his regrets from that time, saying, "I wish I had taken better care of my mother-in-law," reflecting on his past actions with a sense of remorse. Although he has been a prominent announcer for many years, he rarely spoke about his mother, making this revelation particularly poignant and moving for viewers.

Meanwhile, Kim Jae-won recently retired with honor after a 30-year career as an announcer at KBS. He continues to engage in various broadcasting activities following his departure from the show 'Morning Yard.'
