O Min-ae Discusses Intense Slap Scene with IU in 'You Have Done Well'

O Min-ae opened up about the intense scene where she slapped IU in the Netflix series 'You Have Done Well'.

On the October 9th episode of JTBC's 'Knowing Bros', actors Seo Kwon-soon, Park Jun-geum, Moon Hee-kyung, and O Min-ae made an appearance. Known for their fierce portrayals of 'national mothers-in-law', the actresses discussed who played the most formidable mother-in-law. Kang Ho-dong pointed to O Min-ae, saying, "She's very strong," and referenced the scene in 'You Have Done Well' where O Min-ae's character slaps IU.

In the series, O Min-ae plays IU's mother-in-law. The scene in question involves IU's character flipping a ceremonial table in anger, leading to O Min-ae's character delivering a fierce slap.

O Min-ae expressed her feelings about the scene, saying, "I feel misunderstood." She explained, "During the ceremony, the eldest in the family was clearing the table, and when the young daughter-in-law overturned it, wouldn't anyone react?" Seo Jang-hoon chimed in, "It was understandable," to which O Min-ae replied, "That's from Ae-soon's perspective. I have my own perspective too."

O Min-ae further explained, "Ae-soon was agitated and told me to 'let the young lady do it,' so I slapped her to calm her down." She emphasized that IU requested the slap to be real for the sake of authenticity. Moon Hee-kyung added, "There's a technique to slapping, and some actors request it to be real."

Additionally, O Min-ae shared a humorous anecdote about an unscripted moment during filming. "There was a scene where I went to Busan to find Gwan-sik and Ae-soon. The script didn't include hair-pulling, but while acting with Kang Mal-geum at a Busan inn, she grabbed my hair unexpectedly. It was quite fun," she laughed.
