Hong Hyun-hee's First Taste of Pyongyang Cold Noodles: A Culinary Adventure
Comedian Hong Hyun-hee recently embarked on a culinary adventure with 'Shopddung', trying Pyongyang cold noodles and Eobokjaengban for the first time.

On the YouTube channel 'Hong Hyun-hee and Jason's Hongssun TV', run by Hong Hyun-hee and her husband Jason, a new video titled 'What Does This Taste Like? Hyun-hee's First Experience with Pyongyang Cold Noodles' was uploaded.

In the video, Hong Hyun-hee visits a renowned Pyongyang cold noodle restaurant with 'Shopddung'. She shared, "Growing up, I only ate simple foods like kimchi and never had the chance to try delicious dishes. That's why my experience with different foods is limited." She added, "Given my profession where I meet various people, I realized I should learn more about food," explaining her motivation for trying Pyongyang cold noodles.

Pyongyang cold noodles are known for their polarizing taste, often described as either a gourmet delight or akin to 'water used to wash a rag'. The duo started with mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and added bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed noodles), Eobokjaengban, and dumplings to their order. As they discussed the food, the visually stunning Eobokjaengban arrived, prompting Hong Hyun-hee to exclaim, "What have I been doing not eating this?"

Shopddung confidently stated, "I've been enjoying Pyongyang cold noodles with soju for over 10 years, and I can easily drink two to three bottles with the broth." Hong Hyun-hee, filled with anticipation, took a sip of the broth, only for her expression to twist in surprise. She remarked, "People actually pay for this?"

In contrast, Shopddung praised the broth, noting, "The broth here is richer than other places." Hong Hyun-hee struggled with the broth, opting to add vinegar and mustard to manage the taste. However, she thoroughly enjoyed the bibim-naengmyeon. Gradually, she began to appreciate the unique flavor by alternating bites of bibim-naengmyeon with sips of the Pyongyang cold noodle broth.

Eventually, Hong Hyun-hee expressed, "I want to be like Pyongyang cold noodles. Initially subtle, but a taste that lingers in your mind, like thinking it's a shallow sea but discovering it's deep." The duo then enjoyed a feast of Eobokjaengban and dumplings, having a delightful time. They concluded their meal with individual servings of bingsu for dessert.
