Veteran Actress Kim Geum-soon Opens Up About Her Journey as a 'Breadwinner Actress'
Kim Geum-soon, a seasoned actress with a 30-year career and 73 credited works, recently described herself as a 'breadwinner actress' on KBS 2TV's 'New Release Pyeonstorang'.

On the episode aired on the 25th, Kim, known for her role as 'Jenny's Mom' in Netflix's 'Crash Course in Romance', shared her experiences. Her co-star IU once praised her acting, saying, "I felt like I would be overshadowed in our scenes together."

Ahead of her first Baeksang Arts Awards appearance, where she was nominated for Best Actress for her role in the independent film 'Innocence', Kim humorously remarked, "I feel embarrassed to be among stars like Song Hye-kyo and Kim Go-eun."

After transforming into a goddess with hair and makeup, Kim was surprised to see her eldest son, Yong Tae-du (21), waiting with a bouquet. The cast admired his good looks, and Kim introduced her family, including her younger son Yong Tae-seong (17), who is studying in the U.S. "I'm a single mom," she said, "a fabulous single." She shared a sweet moment with her son, kissing him on the cheek, and explained, "We've always been affectionate, like an American family."

Her son surprised her with a trunk event to celebrate her Baeksang nomination. Kim was touched, saying, "I've never received such a gesture before." Her son advised, "Don't inhale too much of the flower scent; it's bad for your allergies."

On the way to the awards, Kim confessed, "I feel heavy-hearted." Her son comforted her, saying, "You've worked hard." Ultimately, the Best Actress award went to Jeon Do-yeon.

Kim later texted Jeon to congratulate her and was moved by Jeon's reply, "I thought you would win."

Her son celebrated with a cocktail and Brazilian cuisine, prompting Kim to share her past: "I met my ex-husband in Brazil at 29, lived there for 10 years, and had my children."

Recalling a harrowing experience in Brazil, Kim revealed, "We were almost kidnapped by a gang of six. My eldest, then 9, bravely shouted for them not to take his 5-year-old brother. They took everything, but I begged for one ring back."

Though she can laugh now, the trauma left her unable to use elevators for a while.

Back in Korea, Kim became a 'breadwinner actress', saying, "I never dreamed of stardom. Acting was my job. I started theater in middle school and never imagined doing films or dramas. I began for financial reasons, to support my kids."

During lean times, she took on various jobs, from dishwashing to frying chicken. "While working at a lunchbox shop, I got a role in 'Train to Busan'. I've only focused on acting for the past four years," she shared.
