Choo Young-woo Captivates Audiences with Intense Performance in 'Gyeonwoo and Seonnyeo'

Actor Choo Young-woo has masterfully embodied his character with a piercing gaze and a cynical tone.

In the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Gyeonwoo and Seonnyeo' (directed by Kim Yong-wan, written by Yang Ji-hoon, planned by CJ ENM, produced by Studio Dragon, Dexter Pictures, and Eocon Content Group), which aired on the 24th, Choo Young-woo portrayed 'Bae Gyeon-woo,' a character destined to face death once again.

Bae Gyeon-woo, born under a bad omen, has narrowly escaped death multiple times since childhood. Abandoned even by his parents, his grandmother Ok-soon (played by Gil Hae-yeon) was his entire world. After losing Ok-soon to illness, Gyeon-woo, left alone, became as prickly as a hedgehog.

Once a promising national archery prospect, Gyeon-woo found himself embroiled in a major accident, attracting envy and jealousy from others. He was even falsely accused of arson. As Gyeon-woo faced constant scrutiny and judgment, he grew increasingly cynical. To avoid showing this side to Ok-soon, he eventually quit archery, saying, "You get used to being hated."

Entangled with both water and fire spirits, Gyeon-woo chose to accept death rather than seek a way out of the raging flames. Sitting in despair, his eyes reflected both sadness and fear. Even when facing death, he told Seong-ah (played by Jo Yi-hyun), who approached him, "Go. Don't come."

Choo Young-woo perfectly transformed into the guarded 'hedgehog' Bae Gyeon-woo, who rarely lets anyone close. To prevent his misfortune from affecting others, Gyeon-woo built high, strong walls around himself. Declaring, "I hate everyone," he lashed out at friends, only to end up hurt himself.

Gyeon-woo also mistakenly accused the celestial fairy of being a fraud, pouring out his agitated emotions. Discovering his grandmother's body, he broke down in tears, touching the hearts of viewers. Choo Young-woo delicately portrayed Gyeon-woo's wounded inner self, drawing audiences into the narrative. Attention is focused on the future of Gyeon-woo, whose will to live has been completely shattered.
