Seo Beom-jun Captivates Viewers in His First Historical Drama Role

Seo Beom-jun stars as Jung Soo-gyeom, the promising youngest member of the Hongmungwan, in the drama that premiered on November 11. His character is the epitome of a 'Joseon-era heartthrob', known for his intelligence, gentle demeanor, and noble lineage.
In the first two episodes, Seo Beom-jun's portrayal of the sweet and caring Jung Soo-gyeom, who contrasts sharply with his friend, the prickly Gyeongseong-gun Ibeon (played by Ok Taecyeon), captured the audience's attention. Seo's character makes a charismatic entrance by rescuing the female lead, Jo Eun-ae (played by Kwon Han-sol), from danger, leaving a strong impression from the opening scene.
Seo Beom-jun's warm visuals, soothing voice, and kind-hearted nature left a lasting impact. In one scene, Jung Soo-gyeom comforts a frightened child amidst rumors about Gyeongseong-gun Ibeon, saying, "There's no need to be too scared. It's best to believe what you see with your own eyes," while offering dried persimmons, showcasing his warm humanity.
Jung Soo-gyeom's contrasting personality to the cold Ibeon is further highlighted when he playfully teases, "Have you found out who they are? I can tell just by looking at your eyes," displaying his charming and warm nature. Additionally, his character shows interest in Jo Eun-ae at first sight and reacts with amusement to a chaotic scene involving a bomb drink created by college student K (played by Seo Hyun), who is possessed by a minor character in the novel.
In episode 2, Jung Soo-gyeom adds to the drama's excitement with his hearty laughter, saying, "I hope you have many firsts. That way, I can keep hitting the jackpot every day." He also performs action-packed scenes reminiscent of martial arts films, such as jumping from a tree and flying through the air while holding Cha Seon-chek's hand.
Jung Soo-gyeom's interest in Cha Seon-chek is piqued when he suggests she join his seminar after being impressed by her bomb drink-making skills. When she declines, he sweetly persuades her, "I want to share that romance with you. You won't refuse my request, will you, Seon-chek?" His curiosity about the evolving relationship between Ibeon and Seon-chek adds to the anticipation for future episodes.
Seo Beom-jun, who previously won the Rookie of the Year award at both KBS and SBS in 2024, is showcasing his versatility by taking on his first historical drama role. His portrayal of Jung Soo-gyeom, a unique character described as the 'bible of supporting male leads', demonstrates his ability to transcend genres. From his dignified appearance in traditional Korean attire to his warm personality and melodious voice, Seo Beom-jun brings the character to life with a pure and radiant smile.
'I Took the First Night of the Main Character', featuring Seo Beom-jun, airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 PM.
