Son Seok-gu Describes His 'Nine Puzzle' Character as a 'Charming Guy'
Actor Son Seok-gu recently shared insights into his character, Kim Han-sam, from the Disney+ series 'Nine Puzzle,' describing him as a 'charming guy.'

In a recent interview at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul, Son Seok-gu discussed his role in the mystery thriller 'Nine Puzzle.' The series follows Yoon Ina, played by Kim Da-mi, a profiler and the sole witness to an unsolved case from a decade ago, and detective Kim Han-sam, played by Son Seok-gu, who suspects her as a suspect. Together, they unravel the secrets of a renewed serial murder case with mysterious puzzle pieces.

Son Seok-gu portrays Kim Han-sam, a detective in the Major Crimes Unit 2, who is a fan of detective novels and films. Han-sam became a police officer because he enjoys finding clues and solving cases. He is an elite with a meticulous perfectionist nature, somewhat conservative, yet sports tattoos and is often seen wearing a beanie and coat. Among his colleagues, he is known as an unpredictable 'maverick.'

Son Seok-gu explained, "Initially, Han-sam seemed like a character with limited emotional range and more monotone when I first read the script." He added, "In the drama, he comes across as more of a charming guy, honest with his emotions, and a more transparent person." He further noted, "While Ina might seem like a comic book character in terms of appearance and speech, I also thought Han-sam was a comic-like character. His outfits were designed to give him a unique, comic-like touch."

Viewers have speculated about the meaning behind Kim Han-sam's tattoos, wondering if they hold any hidden significance. Son Seok-gu commented, "I didn't expect the tattoos to be perceived as a mystery element by the audience."
