66-Year-Old Intern Oh Chang-kyu Shares His Inspiring Journey on 'You Quiz on the Block'

Oh Chang-kyu, a 66-year-old intern, revealed the reasons behind his relentless pursuit of new challenges.

On the 297th episode of tvN's variety show 'You Quiz on the Block,' which aired on the 11th, Oh Chang-kyu appeared as a guest, sharing his story of becoming an intern at the age of sixty-six.

During the show, Oh Chang-kyu appeared in the studio and shared, "I am living a second life as 'Oliver,' an intern at a marketing company, after serving as a vice president at a semiconductor company," touching the hearts of many.

Oh Chang-kyu entered the IT industry immediately after graduating from university, having been scouted, and built a 30-year career, including 16 years at a semiconductor company where he rose to the position of vice president.

However, he was recommended for voluntary retirement just 5-6 months before his official retirement. After retiring, he experienced a period of intense wandering for 1-2 months, recalling, "I tried to calm my confused mind by visiting mountains and the sea, and eventually sought out friends who were running businesses, hoping for opportunities, but it was difficult to openly ask. I ended up just exchanging pleasantries."

When asked why he continued to seek work and acquire various certifications, Oh Chang-kyu explained, "The hardest thing in the world seems to be having nothing to do and just staying at home. Even now, my biggest fear is the day when I have to rest again."

MC Yoo Jae-suk empathized, saying, "I only ever saw my father going to work every day, so seeing him sitting in the living room on a weekday felt very unfamiliar. Looking back, I realize how much he must have worried about what to do next."

Oh Chang-kyu's supervisor, Jooni, also appeared on the show, drawing attention. When asked if he had anything to say about intern Oh Chang-kyu, Jooni became emotional.

He shared, "He knows what's going on just by looking at my eyes. He silently leaves coffee for me when I'm having a hard time and gives me a lot of good advice," adding, "The company renews intern contracts every three months, and it can be done three times. Oliver (Oh Chang-kyu) has been renewed three times, and I get emotional because I want to see him for a long time. We've made many memories, and I've received a lot of help, which brings tears to my eyes."
