Ji Soo Shines in 'Newtopia' Amidst Acting Criticism: A Thrilling Zombie Drama Unfolds

Singer and actor Ji Soo, who has faced criticism for her acting skills, has found a new weapon in her latest role.

Episodes 5 and 6 of the Coupang Play series 'Newtopia' were released on September 28 and October 7, respectively.

'Newtopia' follows the story of soldier Jae-yoon (played by Park Jung-min) and his girlfriend Young-joo (played by Ji Soo) as they navigate a zombie-infested Seoul to reunite.

In episode 5, Young-joo reaches A Tower where Jae-yoon is located. Avoiding the zombie-filled main entrance, she heads to the parking lot, only to be attacked by zombies there as well. Climbing onto a car, she fights back with a golf club in a desperate struggle. The scene where Young-joo mourns the loss of Alex (played by Lee Hak-joo), who saves her but ultimately falls victim to the zombies, is heart-wrenching.

Young-joo finally contacts her boyfriend Jae-yoon, shedding tears of relief. Despite being surrounded by zombies, she bravely declares, "I'll protect you," showcasing her unwavering devotion.

The camaraderie within Young-joo's team is highlighted when their ally, Sam-soo (played by Tang Joon-sang), leaves the group after turning into a zombie. Young-joo's heartfelt farewell, urging him to "be careful," adds an emotional touch.

In episode 6, Young-joo faces more challenges as her senior Jin-wook (played by Kang Young-seok) departs, leaving her to confront the zombies alone. After losing her car, she heads to the subway station, only to find it overrun by zombies. In her search for a survival weapon, she discovers a chainsaw, exclaiming "Got it!" with newfound determination.

Equipped with a chainsaw and helmet, Young-joo takes down the approaching zombies, showcasing her enhanced survival skills. However, as she finds herself cornered, viewers are left wondering if she will overcome the odds and reunite with Jae-yoon.

'Newtopia,' featuring Ji Soo, releases a new episode every Friday at 8 PM on Coupang Play.
