Despairing Couple: Husband's Alcoholism and Domestic Violence Revealed on 'Oh Eun-young Report'

In a shocking revelation on the October 10th episode of MBC's 'Oh Eun-young Report – Marriage Hell', a husband blamed his past violence against his wife on dissatisfaction with her. The couple, referred to as the 'Despairing Couple', has been married for 37 years, but their relationship has been severely damaged by the husband's alcoholism.

The wife is the sole breadwinner of the family, while the husband, suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease due to excessive smoking in his youth, remains unemployed and mostly confined to their home.

The husband's severe alcohol addiction is a major issue. The wife confessed, "My husband has made life difficult for the family because of his drinking. He hasn't stopped drinking for four weeks straight. He's an alcoholic." Videos captured by the wife show the husband continuously drinking, even resorting to bizarre behavior like pretending to drink from a trash can, highlighting his severe dependency.

To prevent him from leaving the house to drink, the wife blocks the entrance with a bicycle and other items from the storage.

During a family dinner, the husband shocked everyone by asking his pregnant daughter to buy him a bottle of soju instead of greeting her. The daughter, seemingly accustomed to such requests, ignored him.

The daughter recalled, "Dad crashed a car due to drunk driving, and I bought him another one, but he totaled it within a week. I wonder why he doesn't realize his mistakes."

The husband suggested setting a period for sobriety, but the children insisted, "It would be better for you to live in a hospital."

The wife's expression darkened at the mention of hospitalization, having already admitted him more than four times. She shared, "Even in the hospital, he kept drinking. He mixed sedatives with alcohol and tried to escape, mistaking windows for doors. I had to stay up all night with the nurses to prevent him from leaving." She added that he was forcibly discharged.

The daughter revealed, "Dad doesn't use violence now because he's weak, but when we were young, he would throw dishes, yell, and curse daily."

The son added, "My earliest memory is of us all sleeping in a small room, and suddenly the lights came on, and Dad was hitting Mom with a guitar."

Despite these confessions, the husband showed no remorse, stating, "The violence was because of my dissatisfaction with your mother. She needs to realize her mistakes."

The children were incredulous at their father's attitude, saying, "He's so hypocritical. It's ridiculous."
