Former Child Actor Moon Hyuk Transitions to Delivery Rider Amid Life's Challenges

On the October 16th episode of MBN's 'Special World,' Moon Hyuk, who starred in the 1992 film 'Our Twisted Hero' and won a special award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, shared his journey.
Moon Hyuk debuted at the age of four in 'Chief Detective,' learning acting before he could read Korean. He won the Blue Dragon Film Award's special prize at just 11 years old for his role in 'Our Twisted Hero.'

Moon Hyuk recalled, "After being cast in 'Rustic Period,' I went drinking with a friend and fell asleep. During that time, the shooting schedule changed, and I missed the call. When I heard 'We can't work with you,' it was like a bolt from the blue. It felt like my heart dropped."
Moon Hyuk also opened up about growing up in a broken home. "My father left, and my mother raised my brother and me alone. We even lived in a guesthouse for months because we had no home," he shared. He added, "Watching my mother struggle alone, I resented my father. I promised myself I wouldn't be like him and would be a good father if I got married."
He also experienced the heartbreak of a broken engagement. "I was devastated after the breakup. I think my health deteriorated as well," he confessed. "I drank every day. That was the worst period for my health. I remember watching TV at home, and the next thing I knew, I was on Mapo Bridge."
Moon Hyuk eventually started working as a delivery rider. What began as a necessity for living expenses became a driving force. "I felt a momentary sense of self-doubt, questioning why I was doing this job," he admitted. "But I realized I couldn't keep dwelling on the past. I decided to openly embrace my new role as a delivery rider."
Living alone for 15 years, Moon Hyuk resides in a house his mother, who lives in Japan, secured for him 30 years ago. He noted that acting opportunities have decreased. "When COVID-19 hit, all performances and projects stopped. I had to do a lot of part-time jobs to make ends meet," he explained. Regarding his current income, he said, "There are days I complete 20 deliveries, and days I don't. The least I've earned was about 40,000 won."
Moon Hyuk has also ventured into writing, having signed contracts for two screenplays, and joined the theater production 'Reconstructing Family.' He expressed, "What's important is to complete my story as Moon Hyuk. My goal and dream are to live forever as a performer, sharing my dramatic life story and conveying various emotions."
