Jang Nara Shines at 2024 SBS Drama Awards, Cementing Her Status as a 'National Star'

Jang Nara has achieved a unique milestone in the entertainment industry by winning both music and acting awards, solidifying her exceptional career. Celebrating her 24th year since debut, she graced the stage as the star of the '2024 SBS Drama Awards', showcasing her unwavering humility and genuine demeanor, reaffirming her status as a 'national star'.

On the 21st, Jang Nara was awarded the Grand Prize at the '2024 SBS Drama Awards' for her performance in the SBS drama 'Good Partner'. The show, which marked her return to SBS, is a legal office drama about star divorce lawyer Cha Eun-kyung and rookie lawyer Han Yoo-ri, played by Jang Nara and Nam Ji-hyun, respectively. Jang Nara's emotional portrayal of Cha Eun-kyung heightened the drama's engagement.

'Good Partner' holds personal significance for Jang Nara as it is her first SBS project in five years since marrying a cinematographer she met on the set of 'VIP' in 2019. At the press conference, she expressed gratitude and responsibility, saying, "SBS is like a benefactor to me. I met great staff and even got married."

Before its premiere, 'Good Partner' faced mixed expectations due to its clichéd divorce theme and excessive melodrama elements. Additionally, there were rumors about casting challenges. However, the drama defied these concerns, debuting with a nationwide rating of 7.8% and surpassing 10% by the third episode.

Jang Nara left a lasting impression on viewers by delicately portraying her character's complex emotions. She naturally depicted the cold judgment of a divorce lawyer alongside a warm side that heals children's wounds, leading the emotional flow of the drama. Her chemistry with Nam Ji-hyun was praised for maximizing the show's synergy.

Following 'Good Partner', Jang Nara was a strong contender for the acting award alongside Ji Sung ('Connection') and Park Shin-hye ('Judge from Hell'). With Ji Sung's absence from the ceremony, attention focused more on Jang Nara, and she ultimately took home the Grand Prize.

SBS, having faced criticism for joint awards last year, restored the prestige of the Grand Prize with this solo win. As Jang Nara's name was announced, she received warm congratulations. In her acceptance speech, she tearfully admitted, "I didn't expect this," and humbly thanked Nam Ji-hyun, calling her "the pillar of the drama and my pillar."

Debuting in 2001, Jang Nara quickly rose to fame, winning major music awards within a year. Transitioning to acting, she proved her versatility by winning Best Actress at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival and Best Actress at the MBC Drama Awards. However, she had yet to win a Grand Prize at SBS, leading to comments about her lack of award luck.
