Ryu Hyun-jin and Bae Ji-hyun Share a Glimpse into Their Family Life
Ryu Hyun-jin and Bae Ji-hyun have opened up about their family life.
On the November 30th episode of KBS2's 'Mr. House Husband Season 2', the Ryu family made their first appearance together. Born in 1987, both Ryu Hyun-jin and Bae Ji-hyun are the same age. When asked if they get along well, Ryu humorously claimed, "I adjust to her," to which Bae responded with a laugh, "I adjust to him."
The couple has a 4-year-old daughter, Ryu Hye-seong, and a 2-year-old son, Ryu Jun-sang. Bae Ji-hyun explained their decision to appear on the show, saying, "I enjoy watching variety shows, and 'Mr. House Husband' is one I never miss." Ryu added, "This is our family's first time on a reality show, so you can look forward to it."
Ryu Hyun-jin also gave viewers a tour of their home in Daejeon for the first time. The spacious area with its bright white-toned interior caught the eye, featuring a room filled with pink items for their daughter, family photos, and memorabilia of Ryu's achievements, creating a loving atmosphere.
Feeling nervous about the reality show, Ryu appeared awkward, prompting Bae to advise, "We shouldn't be like this. We need to be natural." With her broadcasting experience, Bae was fully made up with wavy hair, which Ryu jokingly noted as "the first time seeing her in full makeup in the morning since marriage," causing laughter. In an interview with the production team, Ryu remarked, "It's amazing at home," leaving Bae puzzled, asking, "What's amazing?"
Ryu donned a pink apron to prepare breakfast, revealing his pre-game ritual of eating gamjatang (pork bone soup). He shared, "When I had my best performance in the U.S., it was the food I started eating the day before a game." He recalled eating it before a successful opening game in 2019.
Ryu asked his son, "How do I look in my apron?" to which his son replied, "You look chubby," making Bae laugh. Ryu's tender side was evident as he personally served meat to his children.
The family planned a trip to the zoo, a favorite of their son. Bae dressed up in shorts and boots, prompting Ryu to comment, "You're too dressed up," to which Bae replied, "I just threw this on." Ryu expressed concern, "It's a bit much. We're not going on a date, we're taking two kids," but Bae insisted, "I'm uncomfortable without heels."
Ryu Hyun-jin made history in 2006 by winning both the KBO Rookie of the Year and MVP awards in his debut season. In 2013, he became the first KBO player to join Major League Baseball, signing an unprecedented $61.73 million contract with the LA Dodgers. In 2019, he became the first Korean pitcher to start in an MLB All-Star Game. He later signed a four-year, $80 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, earning the nickname 'Monster Pitcher.' In February, he returned to the KBO League with the Hanwha Eagles, signing a record-breaking 8-year, 17 billion won contract, marking his return to domestic baseball after 12 years.
