Kim Bum-soo Reveals He Was Cast in 'Stairway to Heaven' 20 Years Ago

Kim Bum-soo, known for his role in 'Dad is a Flower Middle-aged Man,' surprised everyone by revealing that he was cast in the drama 'Stairway to Heaven' over 20 years ago, in front of his peer Shin Hyun-joon.

On the 30th episode of Channel A's 'Dad is a Flower Middle-aged Man,' airing at 9:40 PM on the 28th, 57-year-old broadcaster and former announcer Kim Bum-soo makes an appearance. He humorously explains the confusion in the age hierarchy due to his 'fast age,' being the same age as 58-year-old Shin Sung-woo and 57-year-old Shin Hyun-joon, leading to a playful rivalry with Shin Hyun-joon throughout the show.

Kim Bum-soo recalls, "I was cast in the role of 'Manager Kim' in the department store in Shin Hyun-joon's iconic drama 'Stairway to Heaven.' It was even reported in the newspapers." He adds, "At that time, it was difficult for announcers to participate in anything other than news and educational programs, so I had to step down due to opposition from the announcer's office. I should have played Manager Kim back then," expressing his regret.

Shin Hyun-joon jokingly responds, "It's a relief you didn't take the role back then." When Kim Bum-soo retorts, "What's wrong with me? Tell me why I couldn't do it," Shin Hyun-joon humorously shuts him down, saying, "Just no. No reason needed." This exchange brings laughter to everyone. Shin Hyun-joon even goes as far as to thank the announcer's office for canceling Kim Bum-soo's casting, bowing deeply on the spot, causing an uproar.
