Disney+ Original Series 'Nine Puzzle' Promises a Unique Twist on Crime Thrillers
Director Yoon Jong-bin and actors Kim Da-mi and Son Seok-gu have expressed confidence that the Disney+ original series 'Nine Puzzle' will stand out from traditional crime dramas.
On the 21st, The Walt Disney Company Asia-Pacific (APAC) hosted the 'Disney Content Showcase 2024' at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The event offered a sneak peek at theatrical releases and streaming content slated for 2025-2026, featuring top global stars from the U.S. and the Asia-Pacific region.
On the second day of the event, Disney unveiled its lineup of Disney General Entertainment and original content from Korea and Japan. Directed by Yoon Jong-bin, 'Nine Puzzle' is a mystery thriller that follows two vastly different investigators who must collaborate to catch a serial killer engaged in psychological warfare. Kim Da-mi stars as Ina, a profiler and the sole witness to an unsolved case from 10 years ago. She is drawn back into the investigation when a new series of murders begins, accompanied by mysterious puzzle pieces. She must team up with detective Han Saem, played by Son Seok-gu, who views her with skepticism.
Kim Da-mi shared, "I thought Ina had a unique profiling style. I researched real-life profilers but also worked closely with the director to create something unique to Ina, showing various facets of her character." Son Seok-gu described his character as "visually unique, unlike typical detectives, possessing a distinct look and emotional depth different from traditional Korean crime dramas." He added, "Meeting a profiler more unique than himself, the unexpected chemistry will be a highlight, offering visuals and content never seen before."
Director Yoon Jong-bin remarked, "When I first received the script, I couldn't predict the story. Throughout the 12 episodes, each one had a twist. These elements were intriguing." He continued, "I focused on breaking away from conventional crime and thriller genres to create something new." During the two-day 'Disney Content Showcase 2024', Disney introduced upcoming theatrical releases and streaming content for 2025 and beyond. The event featured previews and exclusive footage from Disney Creative Studios, along with new Korean and Japanese content. Over 500 journalists and partners from 12 Asia-Pacific countries, including Korea, attended the event, alongside top global stars from the U.S. and the region.
