A Thrilling Family Drama: 'Intimate Betrayal' Starring Han Suk-kyu Premieres on MBC
'Intimate Betrayal' starring Han Suk-kyu delivers a resonant family story under the guise of a father-daughter thriller. Previously, Son Hyun-joo and Kim Myung-min portrayed paternal love in the drama 'Your Honor' on ENA.
Set to premiere on November 11, MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Intimate Betrayal' (hereafter referred to as 'Intimate Betrayal') follows the story of a top profiler in Korea who uncovers his daughter's secret while investigating a murder case. As he faces the truth hidden in the depths, he experiences a harrowing downfall. This 'father-daughter thriller' marks the return of actor Han Suk-kyu to his home network MBC after nearly 30 years, alongside rising star Chae Won-bin, who plays his daughter.
In 'Intimate Betrayal,' Han Suk-kyu and Chae Won-bin portray a deteriorating father-daughter relationship marked by mistrust. Han Suk-kyu plays Jang Tae-soo, a top profiler who can read the minds of criminals but fails to understand his daughter. Chae Won-bin takes on the role of Jang Ha-bin, a daughter harboring secrets, exuding a mysterious charm.
The released stills capture an awkward and uncomfortable meal between Tae-soo and Ha-bin. On the table are Tae-soo's clumsily prepared dishes and a birthday cake, yet Ha-bin sits without acknowledging her father's efforts. The distance across the table mirrors the emotional gap between them, drawing attention.
This scene vividly illustrates the estranged relationship between Tae-soo and Ha-bin. While Tae-soo tries to reach out to his daughter, whom he has neglected due to his focus on solving cases, Ha-bin remains distant, holding secrets unknown to her father. Amidst this, a murder case linked to his daughter arises, placing Tae-soo in a dilemma between his roles as a father and a police officer. Through the portrayal of a father and daughter inflicting wounds on each other due to mistrust, 'Intimate Betrayal' aims to reflect on the meaning of family.
The production team stated, "Our drama carries a profound message within the genre fun of a 'father-daughter thriller.' It presents a gripping psychological battle between Tae-soo and Ha-bin, prompting viewers to ponder why their relationship has grown so cold. We hope 'Intimate Betrayal' will satisfy both entertainment and emotional resonance, and we ask for your interest and anticipation."
Han Suk-kyu also shared his reason for choosing the project, saying, "I was fortunate to encounter a story I really wanted to tell and showcase. It made me reflect and think as a parent, beyond being an actor. The writer has skillfully dramatized the story of a family standing between trust and doubt."
The first and second episodes of 'Intimate Betrayal' will be extended to 90 minutes and air on November 11 (Friday) and 12 (Saturday) at 9:40 PM.
