Actor Jang Dong-gun Faces Public Backlash Ahead of 'Ordinary Family' Comeback
Actor Jang Dong-gun, who is set to make his screen comeback with 'Ordinary Family,' is facing a chilly reception from the public.
'Ordinary Family,' scheduled for release in October, is a suspense drama that follows four individuals whose lives are upended after witnessing a crime involving children on CCTV. The film is based on the global bestseller 'The Dinner' by Dutch author Herman Koch, one of Europe's most sold books.
In the film, Jang Dong-gun plays Jae-gyu, a morally upright and principled pediatrician who values honor and integrity. His life takes a dramatic turn when he discovers shocking footage of his own child's involvement in a crime, forcing him to confront his deeply held beliefs. Born in 1972, Jang Dong-gun debuted as an actor in 1992 through MBC's 21st open recruitment for talents. Known for his good looks and immense popularity, he married actress Ko So-young in 2010, and they have a son and a daughter. However, in January 2020, Jang was embroiled in a private life scandal when leaked conversations revealed inappropriate content and spelling errors, severely damaging his public image.
Jang remained silent and halted his entertainment activities following the scandal. He reappeared three years later in TV Chosun's documentary 'Jang Dong-gun's Back to the Books' Season 2 and starred in tvN's weekend drama 'Arthdal Chronicles' last year. 'Ordinary Family' marks his first film in six years since 'Rampant.'
The public's reaction to Jang's return has been harsh, with comments such as, 'Did you finish your reflection period?' 'There are other actors who can replace him,' 'He looks aged,' 'Why a moral character of all roles?' and 'Living life too easily.'
