Kim Tae-ri Returns in New tvN Drama 'Jeong Nyeon' with First Stills Revealed
Set in the 1950s post-Korean War era, 'Jeong Nyeon' depicts a time of poverty yet filled with romance. The story revolves around 'Jeong Nyeon,' a 'born genius of sound,' who aspires to become the top national theater actress, showcasing her journey of competition, solidarity, and brilliant growth.
Based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name, 'Jeong Nyeon' has garnered significant attention since its production announcement. The drama features the unique theme of female national theater (a genre of traditional Korean opera where all roles are played by women) and follows the protagonist's journey to overcome her limitations and become a star in the national theater troupe.
Directed by Jung Ji-in, who won the 'PD of the Year Award' at the 34th Korea PD Awards for 'The Red Sleeve,' the drama stars Kim Tae-ri (as Yoon Jeong-nyeon), Shin Ye-eun (as Heo Young-seo), Ra Mi-ran (as Kang So-bok), Jung Eun-chae (as Moon Ok-kyung), Kim Yoon-hye (as Seo Hye-rang), with special appearances by Moon So-ri (as Seo Yong-rye) and Lee Deok-hwa (as Gong Seon-bu). The ensemble cast has already attracted considerable public interest.
The first stills of Kim Tae-ri in her titular role as 'Yoon Jeong-nyeon' have heightened anticipation. Kim portrays 'Yoon Jeong-nyeon,' a sound genius who moves to Seoul from Mokpo to become a national theater actress. With her innate vocal talent, wide vocal range, and expressive emotional delivery, Jeong-nyeon is a character with strong resilience, a tenacious spirit, and an affable personality that allows her to befriend anyone.
In the stills, Kim Tae-ri is seen selling fish in a seaside village in Mokpo, exuding a perfect transformation with her simple hanbok jacket and short haircut, reminiscent of a neighborhood leader. Another still shows her engrossed in watching a national theater performance, her eyes sparkling with excitement, captivating viewers. Additionally, Kim is seen practicing dance under the blue sky, her budding talent and immersive presence shining through.
The original webtoon creators, Seo I-re and Namon, have expressed their trust in Kim Tae-ri's portrayal of 'Yoon Jeong-nyeon.' They shared their excitement, saying, "We couldn't believe it when we heard Kim Tae-ri was confirmed for the role. It still feels unreal."
Director Jung Ji-in commented, "Kim Tae-ri's portrayal of Yoon Jeong-nyeon deviates slightly from traditional national theater but showcases a different dimension of charm. Her acting was exceptional, making me feel like I had met an artist beyond the horizon."
'Jeong Nyeon' is set to premiere on Saturday, October 12, at 9:20 PM.
