Divorced Choi Min-hwan expressed, “I can’t represent Yul-hee to my children.”
The 520th episode of KBS2's 'The Return of Superman', which aired on the 7th, featured the 'You are my spring' episode, in which single dad Choi Min-hwan and three siblings Jaeyul, Ayun, and Arin appeared.
Choi Min-hwan married Yul-hee in 2018 and has one son and two daughters, but announced the news of divorce in December last year. Choi Min-hwan decided to have custody of the three children. Choi Min-hwan expressed his feelings, "I felt that (divorce) was not just the two of us. It was a decision that was not easy to make because we have children and both parents. We had a pretty difficult time."
Choi Min-hwan confessed, "I was lost for a while, but I felt sorry for my children, so I came to my senses. It wasn't something I chose, but I felt sorry that it ended up like that. I keep reminding myself that I have to work hard for my children."
Regarding the reason why he decided to rejoin 'Shoodol', Choi Min-hwan said, "Some people say that bringing children on TV would actually hurt the children, but I think the opposite. I would be grateful if the children received more love and support through 'Shoodol'. “It seems like work,” he said.
Minhwan Choi prepares scorched rice for breakfast. Daughter Ayun complained, “Dad, why do you only make rice noodles?” While eating, my son Jae-yul said, "The staff uncles don't know the house password. It's okay for the family, but you shouldn't tell anyone else." He then asked Minhwan Choi, “Can I tell my mom? My mom lives in Incheon, right?” When Choi Min-hwan said, “You can talk to mom,” the son said, “Because we are family.”
Jaeyul, the son who saw the photo with his mother, shed tears because of his longing for his mother. The son confessed, “I cried because I missed my mom at Taekwondo.” Choi Min-hwan said, "I was surprised when the Taekwondo director called and said that (Jaeyul) cried because she missed her mother. She wasn't that kind of child, so it broke my heart." The son knows about divorce, but the twin daughters are still young and do not fully understand the divorce situation. Minhwan Choi confessed, "These days, I feel increasingly sorry for my children. Before I go to bed, I promise myself, 'I'll do better tomorrow,' but when tomorrow actually comes, the day goes by in a hectic manner. It hurts me because that kind of routine seems to be repeating itself."
It is said that the three siblings and Yulhee meet often. He said, "I love my children a lot, and they do a lot of things I can't do. There's nothing that prevents me from meeting my children. If they want to see it, I let them see it. I also say a lot of good things about my mom at home."
Choi Min-hwan also beautifully touched the hair of his twin daughters who were attending school. Minhwan Choi said, “No matter how hard I try and work hard, I cannot replace a mother’s presence to my children.” He then confessed, "I looked for a video and wanted to make (my hair) prettier. I feel very sorry that it didn't work out the way I wanted."
