Kim Hong-sik, who worked as an event MC in Daegu before his debut, recalled, "2004, when I debuted, was the most difficult time financially. I invested in a junior I trusted and lost it all. I think it was about 300 million won at the time." He continued, "My life changed and my family situation changed while I was doing 'Laughter Club'. Even if I went to the same event as before, they gave me 8 to 10 times more money than before. After I became famous, I didn't work, but they gave me an advance. I also paid off my previous debt." I confessed it. He gained great popularity with the character ‘Teacher Kim’.
But the heyday did not last long. Kim Hong-sik said, "My children were 10 and 7 years old when I was broadcasting 'Laughter Club'. I wanted to move house, but I had to move my children's school and had various problems, so I thought I wouldn't have to worry about it alone, so I took the train and bus." He then confessed, "I couldn't live in Seoul, so I went straight home after work. As time went by, the number of broadcasts calling me gradually decreased."
After leaving broadcasting, Kim Hong-sik continued to make a living by giving lectures and events, but after the coronavirus outbreak, his work drastically decreased and he experienced difficulties. Kim Hong-sik said, “People feel helpless because there is nothing I can do.” He added, “My eldest daughter said, ‘Dad, do you want to work as a delivery person at night?’ He said, “My daughter and I left home at 10 p.m. and worked on deliveries until 6 a.m.”
The daughter said with tears in her eyes, "As the coronavirus broke out, I got to see my dad at home a lot. As the coronavirus broke out, I thought, 'Dad, there's less and less work to do.' I felt desperate to do something." Kim Hong-sik expressed his gratitude, saying, “In that sense, my daughter can be said to be my teacher, as she made me stand up from being cowered and made me run around and be active.”
