Yoon Sang's first challenge as an entertainment music director with 'Between Marriage and Divorce 2'
Recently, at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul, I met the production team of the TV show 'Between Marriage and Divorce 2'. Producers Park Nae-ryong and Lee Jin-hyeok, the directors, and music director Yoon Sang, told various stories related to the program through interviews.
After 33 years of debut, Yoon Sang took on his first challenge as an entertainment music director through 'Between Marriage and Divorce 2'. In 'Between Marriage and Divorce 2', Yoon Sang tried hard to capture the changes in the emotions and relationships of couples who are thinking about separation for different reasons in the music. OST singers such as Urban Zakapa Jo Hyun-ah, Jukjae, Lovelyz Kei, Sunny Hill Kim Eun-young, and Bromance Park Jang-hyun participated.
Yoon Sang said, "The general manager contacted me. I first came to see Season 1. There was also an OST for Season 1. I thought that OSTs don't have to be only in dramas," he said about his participation. He continued, "Among the production team, there are people who have married lives full of love, and there are people who don't. I felt the sincerity. It was fun while working on it." He also said, "My parents divorced when I was young. When I was young, the social atmosphere about divorce was not the same as it is now. I have many personal memories related to divorce. Rather, I thought that if I opened it up and showed it like this, it would have a positive effect."
When asked why he entrusted the music to Yoon Sang, PD Park Nae-ryong said, "First, I wanted to make a good song, and I personally like senior Yoon Sang's song 'Love is'. Like the title, it is a song about thinking about love. I did," he replied. He continued, "I watched each episode one by one and made music accordingly. As a PD, I felt comfortable and grateful. They genuinely looked at our content. He even said, 'Why aren't you giving us the next episode?'" Producer Lee Jin-hyeok said, "When watching dramas and movies, music has the power. It increases immersion. I thought it was necessary for entertainment. When couples have a conversation, depending on what kind of music they play, the conversation can feel different." He explained why he was concerned. He continued, "Senior Yoon Sang watched all the episodes, listened to the couple's conversations, and worked on and mixed the theme song accordingly. He also set up the instruments a little differently. Thank you."
Regarding the difference from the previous work method, Yoon Sang said, "It was not something that could be done just beautifully. The most different thing was that the married couples had a sense of urgency to make a big decision for their future. C. Listening to the conversations of the characters and making music that fits their emotions is different from working on film music. I even wondered, 'Am I working on documentary music?'. If possible, I think positively and support them." He also explained, "I also worked on the drama 'Oasis' around the same time, but there the music team was a little more divided, but I was greedy to participate in 'Between Marriage and Divorce 2' more generally."
'Between Marriage and Divorce 2', which was first released on the 19th, is an ongoing divorce observation reality where couples ponder 'how to break up well' at the crossroads of marriage and divorce. In the first week of release, it ranked first in the number of paid subscription contributors among TVing originals.
