"'Drunk driving' Kim Sae-ron minimized"... 'Hounds' Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi seek K-action syndrome with strong bromance

Can Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-i, who have returned to boxing action, create a K-action syndrome beyond the bromance of Park Seo-joon and Kang Ha-neul?

On the morning of the 7th, the production presentation of the Netflix series 'Hounds' was held at the Naru Ballroom on the 2nd floor of MGallery in Hotel Naru Seoul. Actors Woo Do-hwan, Lee Sang, Park Sung-woong, and director Kim Joo-hwan attended the event.

'Hounds' is a story about two young men caught up in the world of loan sharks, where money comes before people's lives, risking their lives against a huge evil force. It is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name.

On this day, director Kim Joo-hwan said, "I usually enjoyed watching the author's original work. There is a forwarding that I can't write, so if I deal with the deep contemporary pain of corona (pandemic) in the background of the work and add action that can be unfolded, many people can sympathize." In fact, it was a time when illegal loan sharks were prevalent. I wanted to talk about hope and justice because there were many points of contact with the passions of young people."

Director Kim Joo-hwan, who directed the films 'Youth Police', 'Lion', and 'Puppy', took the megaphone. The story of two young men who jumped into the world of illegal loans with bare fists led them to direct the first series. After 'Lion', I got to work with Woo Do-hwan for the second time. Director Kim Joo-hwan praised Woo Do-hwan for being 'perfect'.

Woo Do-hwan also said, "I like, respect, and am a close brother. He seems to have trusted me and entrusted me to me because he knows me better than anyone else. In fact, I was dreaming of romance while serving in the military, but I never dreamed that an action proposal would come."

In particular, Kim Sae-ron, who caused controversy for drunk driving, appeared in 'Hounds'. In May of last year, while filming 'Hounds', Kim Sae-ron was driving drunk at Hak-dong Intersection in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and crashed several times into roadside trees and transformers. The court sentenced Kim Sae-ron to a fine of 20 million won. According to Netflix, Kim Sae-ron's length is not edited.

Director Kim Joo-hwan said, "Actually, I thought a lot." He said, "I put a lot of effort into minimizing the inconvenience. A lot of people put in thousands or tens of thousands of hours to complete the work." He added, "In order not to do that, the story had to be intact. So I did my best to improve the completeness while minimizing (actor Kim Sae-ron's amount)."

Woo Do-hwan plays Geon-woo, an honest and innocent young boxer. Woo Do-hwan said, "I was attracted to a different point from other action dramas and action series. I wanted to try it because I had to do boxing from start to finish. I was attracted to what kind of pleasure would come. He was a pure, kind, and clumsy friend with a boxer's heart, which I had never tried before. I was most attracted to it," he explained why he chose 'Hounds'.

Lee Sang-i played Woo-jin, a friendly and fearless young boxer. Lee Sang-i said, "I enjoyed watching the director's previous film, 'Youth Police.' I wanted to,” he added.

Park Seong-woong plays Myung-gil, a vicious illegal private loan company with no blood or tears. He said, "The chemistry of the two friends (Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-i) looked good. 'How can I bully them more?' "I wanted to. In a work, there is a sense of exhilaration at the end when the axis of evil is strong. Even if I don't act anyway, I think I can do well just because I'm evil. I chose it because I think I can show a different side of myself from the villains I've played so far."

These friends are steamed,” he emphasized.

Director Kim Joo-hwan hinted, "I thought it would be nice to start a trend called K-action, so I tried to make it that way. From episode 1 to episode 8, I changed everything with various concepts. I would be grateful if you could watch the action and bromance." Lee Sang-do said, "It's an action without CG," and added, "There is a substitute and sometimes CG is done, but we did 95% of it except for really unavoidable situations. You can see realistic K-action."

Director Kim Joo-hwan, who showed Park Seo-joon and Kang Ha-neul's bromance in the movie 'Youth Police', plans to show a stronger bromance with boxing action added to Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-i. Attention is focusing on how 'Hounds', which minimized the amount of Kim Sae-ron, who caused the 'Drunk Driving' scandal, will react to global viewers.

'Hounds' will be released in 190 countries around the world through Netflix on the 9th.
