Renowned Music Critic Kim Young-dae Passes Away at 48
On the 25th, a post announcing Kim's passing was shared on his Instagram account.
Just a day before, on the 24th, Kim was actively engaging with his followers on social media. He shared the exciting news that a book he authored had been selected by a prominent bookstore. Additionally, he participated in a pre-recording for CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' which aired on the day the sad news was announced.
Born in 1977, Kim Young-dae graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Business Administration and completed his Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at the University of Washington. He was known for his insightful analysis of K-pop and the Hallyu wave, both in Korea and internationally.
Since 2020, Kim had been involved in broadcasting major music events such as the Billboard Music Awards and the American Music Awards. In 2023, he joined the Korean panel for the Grammy Awards. He also served as a judge for the MAMA Awards and a selection committee member for the Korean Music Awards. Kim appeared on shows like 'Difference K-Class' and 'Naked World History,' where he shared his knowledge of music history.
Kim's memorial service is being held at Chung-Ang University Hospital Funeral Hall, with the funeral scheduled for 11 a.m. on the 27th. He will be laid to rest at Seoul Memorial Park.
