The music video for 'Permission to Dance,' released globally in July 2021, surpassed 700 million views on YouTube at approximately 5:14 PM on the 10th. This marks BTS's 10th music video to reach this milestone.
'Permission to Dance' is a dance-pop track that encourages everyone to dance freely without permission, offering a message of hope and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. It conveys the idea of finding freedom and happiness through dance and music, despite challenging times, and reassures that life goes on.
The music video is filled with the bright and energetic presence of BTS members. In the latter part, the seven members perform choreography using international sign language with a crowd, delivering a profound message of hope. Additionally, BTS left a significant mark by performing 'Permission to Dance' at the 76th United Nations General Assembly in 2021. The performance, which started in the conference hall and moved through the lobby, entrance, and lawn, spread positive energy worldwide and garnered significant attention.
Upon its release, 'Permission to Dance' debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and remained on the chart for seven consecutive weeks. The song also received a 'Gold' certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over 500,000 units. The RIAA's unit count is based on album sales, digital downloads, and streaming equivalents.
As BTS prepares for a full group comeback next spring, anticipation is building for their new album and world tour, reaffirming their enduring popularity and presence.
