KBS Faces Criticism Over Xiumin's Exclusion from 'Music Bank'

On October 4, KBS addressed the issue on its viewer petition board, stating, "Regarding Xiumin's appearance, we have been in discussions with his team about his participation." They added, "We understand there were differences in expectations during the discussions."
KBS emphasized that 'Music Bank' is open to all agencies and artists, and the lineup is determined based on communication with artists, stage composition, and program flow. They asked for understanding, citing limited scheduling and production constraints.
Last month, a viewer raised concerns on the KBS petition board about Xiumin's absence from 'Music Bank,' questioning the network's initial response that the claims were "groundless." The viewer demanded a more transparent explanation, especially regarding the alleged "communication error" between KBS and Xiumin's team.
The viewer also expressed curiosity about why Xiumin's comeback performance was not approved and requested clarity on whether the issue stemmed from KBS's decision-making.
KBS's textbook-like responses have drawn criticism, with viewers expressing disappointment over the perceived selective and opaque communication from the public broadcaster.
Previously, One Hundred, the label representing Xiumin, claimed that KBS had unfairly blocked Xiumin's appearance on 'Music Bank' due to SM Entertainment's influence. They alleged that KBS unofficially communicated that Xiumin could not appear on programs featuring SM artists.
KBS briefly responded to One Hundred's claims, stating, "These allegations are groundless. We continue to communicate with the company."
