NewJeans Members Express Shock Over Court's Injunction Decision

In an interview with BBC Korea released on the 26th, NewJeans members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein shared their reactions to the recent court ruling. Danielle stated, "I truly expected a different outcome. I remember everyone being shocked." She added, "We didn't start this fight for sympathy; we just wanted to do what we love properly."
Addressing rumors of adult influence behind the scenes, Hanni commented, "It seems like people underestimate us because we're young, assuming we couldn't possibly be handling this issue ourselves. It's not that we take this situation lightly or without serious thought."
She continued, "We've always told each other, 'If even one of us doesn't want this, we won't do it.' It was a decision all five of us agreed on."
Hanni also expressed her concerns about the future, saying, "I didn't expect this to happen. There might be a situation where we can't continue our activities, but I want to avoid that at all costs."
Hyein added, "Some people might think we're in a position where we can do whatever we want and say whatever we want. We've finally spoken out against the injustices we've faced, but the situation isn't turning in our favor. That fact alone speaks volumes. We've shown immense courage by speaking up."
Minji shared her apprehensions, stating, "We knew that once we spoke out, many media outlets would cover us, and it was naturally intimidating. From the moment we held the press conference, we anticipated a flood of judgments and evaluations. We understand the immense responsibility that comes with every word and action."
On October 21, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 50, led by Chief Judge Kim Sang-hoon, ruled in favor of ADOR's request for an injunction against NewJeans members. This decision mandates that NewJeans return as artists under ADOR, prohibiting independent activities or engagements with third-party agencies.
NewJeans had previously claimed that their contract with ADOR was terminated last November and announced plans for independent activities. However, the court's decision has halted these plans. The injunction restricts them from engaging in independent music activities, including songwriting, composing, performing, and commercial activities such as broadcasting, events, and advertising contracts. In response, all five NewJeans members filed an objection to the court's decision on October 21.
