Singer Jessi Issues Second Apology Amid Fan Assault Controversy
Singer Jessi has issued a second apology regarding the controversy surrounding her alleged inaction during a fan assault incident.
On the 23rd, Jessi took to her social media to express her remorse, stating, "I extend my apologies to the victim and their family who suffered due to this incident."
She continued, "Despite the incident being caused by me, my inappropriate actions, attitude, and lack of response from the time of the incident until now have hurt many, including the victims, and have led to feelings of betrayal and anger." She added, "I have regretted it thousands, even tens of thousands of times," and wished she could turn back time.
Jessi further apologized, saying, "If I had taken a photo with the victim, if I had protected them more actively, if I had gone to the police station immediately, if I had made a proper apology, the victim would not have suffered so much," acknowledging, "All of this is my responsibility."
She also admitted, "I know well that I cannot be forgiven with just a word," and pledged to "correct my mistakes and make efforts to help the victim recover," asking for forgiveness.
Jessi recently became embroiled in controversy over her alleged inaction during a fan assault. According to police, in the early hours of the 29th of last month, a minor fan was assaulted by a male companion of Jessi after requesting a photo with her in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu.
Jessi, who was right next to the scene, was seen making gestures to stop the fight but then left the scene. Furthermore, when the police arrived following the victim's report and questioned Jessi and her companions about the assailant's whereabouts, they reportedly claimed not to know.
Regarding the assailant, Jessi's side stated, "He is Chinese," and distanced themselves by saying, "We have no connection, and he is a friend of a producer close to Jessi." During the police investigation, Jessi expressed, "I hope the person who hit the fan is found quickly and punished," but when asked by reporters if it was true she saw the assailant for the first time on the day of the incident, she replied, "It was the first time." However, Jessi is facing strong criticism for not actively stopping her companion from assaulting the fan and for her lukewarm response, claiming ignorance about the assailant. It was later revealed that one of Jessi's companions, Koala, had a tattoo symbolizing a Korean gang on his arm, and that Jessi knew the assailant's identity and contact information but did not respond actively, further fueling the anger of fans and the public.
Below is Jessi's full apology
This is Jessi.
First, I extend my apologies to the victim and their family who suffered due to this incident.
Despite the incident being caused by me, my inappropriate actions, attitude, and lack of response from the time of the incident until now have hurt many, including the victims, and have led to feelings of betrayal and anger.
I have regretted it thousands, even tens of thousands of times.
I wish I could turn back time.
If I had taken a photo with the victim, if I had protected them more actively, if I had gone to the police station immediately, if I had made a proper apology, the victim would not have suffered so much.
All of this is my responsibility.
I know well that I cannot be forgiven with just a word.
However, I will now correct my mistakes and make efforts to help the victim recover.
Though it is too late, I ask for forgiveness once again.
I was wrong.
Sincerely, Jessi
