Seventeen appointed as UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassadors today (26th)

Group Seventeen (S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, Dino) has finally taken their first step as UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassadors.

Seventeen will attend the UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassador Appointment Ceremony held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France at 10:30 am on the 26th (local time, 5:30 pm on the 26th in Korea time). At this event, members will receive a letter of appointment from UNESCO Headquarters Secretary-General Audrey Azoulay and will deliver a 10-minute acceptance speech. Seventeen and Secretary General Audre Azoulay also have a brief chat prior to the appointment ceremony.

UNESCO appoints world-renowned figures from all walks of life as goodwill ambassadors. This is to increase interest and participation of people around the world in UNESCO’s ideology and activities. SEVENTEEN becomes the first K-pop artist to become official goodwill ambassadors for UNESCO. This is the first time that UNESCO appoints a goodwill ambassador for youth, their priority group.

Foreign media are also paying attention. Billboard, an American music media, said, “Seventeen has added a new honor to its long list of achievements,” and CLASH, a British music magazine, said, “Seventeen is an inspiration to young people around the world with music and positive energy.” We have conveyed our support,” Secretary General Audre Azoulay was quoted as saying.

Le Figaro, a leading French daily newspaper, introduced Seventeen as “one of the most popular groups in the world” and highlighted their appointment as UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassadors. Paris Match, another local weekly magazine, explained, “Seventeen has formed a consensus with CARAT (fandom name) through music,” adding, “They have established themselves as global superstars based on their sincerity and talent.”
