Singer Lucid Fall (Cho Yoon-seok) expressed his thoughts on the album release.

Lucid Fall will release its second ambient album 'Being-with' on the 12th. This album is released about a year after the release of the 10th regular album 'Voice and Guitar'. Before its release, Lucid Fall met with a reporter at a gallery in Seoul and talked about the album.

Lucid Fall said, "I didn't release an album because I thought I had to. Four years ago, when 'You and I' came out, I was in a transitional period. I only released music as a singer-songwriter."

He said, "I think that Lucid Fall, who makes songs, and Lucid Fall, who explores sound, are egoically divided. That's why we release music once a year. We do musical work almost every day. We record sound and do other things. “Like working with music equipment before it became popular,” he said.

Lucid Fall smiled and said, “Making a song is not something that can be done consistently. To put it in an analogy, it is like a carnivore hunting its prey. But making sounds can be done consistently like a herbivore grazing grass.”

I could also overhear concerns about the changing way of making music. Lucid Fall said, "I am also a listener. I am also a Korean living in the present. I don't know anything else, but from the perspective of making music, I worry about what kind of music people are listening to, with what appeal, and in what way."

He continued, "There was a time when music was listened to through speakers. How many people listen to it that way these days? Most people listen to songs through earphones. The method is completely changing, and from the perspective of an engineer who makes music, it is different from the way my parents' generation listened to music. “There are people who have accidents,” he said.

He said, "It's called three-dimensional music. I worry about how to convey the lyrics well. What you thought was right before may be thought to be wrong these days. I listen to noise-canceling music on the subway, and if you make music with a wide dynamic gauge, the sound becomes difficult to hear. Like there’s more,” he explained.

He also said, "What I always worry about is the question of whether a song is music. Some people may be right, others may be wrong. I don't think so, because it has lyrics. I am a person who thinks that music is the furthest thing from language."

Lucid Fall said, "The song felt like music, but at the same time it didn't feel like music at all. On the contrary, there is music that can move people purely aurally. 'Sound music' would be suitable. In other words, it is a song that is liberated from lyrics. “I always had a desire to do music,” he said.

He added, "I am not a person who received any musical education. I thought that music with lyrics was not the path for me to pursue. While making various kinds of music through various opportunities, I thought that I would like to work on making sound into music."

He also revealed his greed through sound and music. Lucid Fall said, "It may not be for some, but it's a sound that has meaning for others. I want to give them that kind of experience. The self in music with lyrics, the self in sound music. Now, I've become a two-track person."

In addition, he said, "This time, I came up with the most non-singing music. I think I will continue to make music in this way in the future."

Starting with 'Mindmirror', which highlights the process of repetition and variation of the eight-bar motif that makes up the new album, 'Aviiir' shows the rebirth of sound by stretching out the sound of string instruments, and from the sound of the sea to the original. Songs imbued with Lucid Fall's delicate sensibility, such as 'Microcosmo', which combines various sounds, including those of people met at the market, to create a new narrative, and 'Transcendence', which conveys comfort with a gentle and warm atmosphere. It is included.

The title song 'Mater Dolorosa' is music made by collecting the harsh sounds of a construction site. As the title 'Suffering Mother' suggests, Lucid Fall seeks to deliver a message of compassion and solidarity for the Earth, which is suffering from human desire, and for all living beings who suffer together.

'Being-with' is a collection of five pieces of music created by Lucid Fall using various existing sounds, making us think about 'coexistence' with everything surrounding us. Lucid Fall, who has established himself as an unrivaled musician in the ambient music industry based on his detailed sensibility, plans to provide listeners with a lingering feeling with his synesthetic sound.
