NewJeans' 'Get Up' was listed on Rolling Stone's 'Best Albums of 2023' list.
'Get Up' ranked 33rd in 'The 100 Best Albums of 2023' released by Rolling Stone on the 30th of last month (local time). As a result, NewJeans was named to Rolling Stone's 'Best Album of the Year' for two consecutive years following last year's debut album 'New Jeans'.
In Rolling Stone's '100 Best Albums of 2023', which includes works by global pop stars such as Caesar, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Troye Sivan, and Drake, 'Get Up' ranked highest among K-pop albums.
Rolling Stone said, “The five-member group that took K-pop by storm with their debut in 2022 has returned more sophisticatedly with their second EP. ‘Get Up’ evokes nostalgia with the R&B and UK garage/drum & bass sounds of the Y2K era,” he said. The retro and futuristic feel at the same time is amazing. “Compared to any other pop songs this year, NewJeans is a strong candidate for winning,” he said.
The New York Times also published an article titled 'Best Albums of 2023' on the 30th of last month and selected 'Get Up' as one of the best albums of the year. Critic Jon Caramanica said, “The most modern, progressive, and cool pop released this year is this forward-looking album (referred to as ‘Get Up’) by Korean girl group NewJeans. “NewJeans shows that they can adapt to a variety of styles, including sensual R&B and pop-jungle,” he said.
The British version of global men's magazine GQ also selected 'Get Up' as the only K-pop album in 'The best albums of 2023' on the 27th of last month. The British edition of GQ said, “‘Get Up’ is significant in that it is the album that solidified the new group New Genes as the next generation. “In a genre that can favor maximalism, NewJeans blends fluid vocals with repetitive basslines, resulting in music that is completely unique and difficult to give up.”
NewJeans' 'Get Up' hit domestic and international charts as soon as it was released on July 22nd. NewJeans ranked first on Billboard's main album chart, 'Billboard 200', just one year after their debut with 'Get Up', and released three album title songs ('Super Shy', 'ETA', 'Cool With You'). All of them entered the main song chart ‘Hot 100’.
