Stray Kids 'Five Star' becomes the best-selling K-pop album in the US this year
Stray Kids' third regular album '★★★★★ (5-STAR)' (Five Star), released on June 2, is the highest-selling K-pop album in the United States in 2023 (until August 28 local time) (based on tally) ranked 1st.
In the overall album sales rankings for the same period, global star Taylor Swift's 'Midnights', 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)' (Speak Now), and Travis Scott's 'UTOPIA' (Speak Now) It ranked 4th after Utopia.
In particular, the mini album 'MAXIDENT', released in October last year, also boasted long-running popularity, ranking 10th in the best-selling K-pop album in the United States in 2023. As a result, Stray Kids placed second behind Taylor Swift in the ranking of artists who have sold the most albums in the United States so far this year, highlighting their presence as a popular K-pop singer.
Previously, Stray Kids topped the Billboard main charts 'Billboard 200' and 'Artist 100' as of June 17 with their 3rd full-length album and title song 'Special'. Following the two mini albums 'ODDINARY' and 'MAXIDENT' released in 2022, and their first album in 2023, they set a new record by entering the Billboard main chart for three consecutive times and ranking first at the same time.
Recently, they were listed on the 'Billboard 200' chart for 12 consecutive weeks and broke the group's own record of being ranked for the longest time.
Stray Kids, who are enjoying high global popularity as a 'K-pop trend', will heat up the US in September. First, they will appear for the first time at the '2023 MTV Video Music Awards' (hereinafter 'MTV VMAs'), which will be held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA, on September 12 (local time).
Stray Kids, who were nominated in the 'Best K-Pop' category at the 'MTV VMAs' for the title song 'Special' of their 3rd full-length album, will present a 'Special' performance and celebrate their entry into the awards ceremony.
