Director Yeon Sang-ho Praises Jun Ji-hyun's Versatile Acting in Upcoming Film 'The Hive'
Director Yeon Sang-ho has praised actress Jun Ji-hyun for her wide acting spectrum in their upcoming film 'The Hive'.

On the 4th, a production briefing for the film 'The Hive' (directed by Yeon Sang-ho) was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Hangang-daero, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Attendees included director Yeon Sang-ho and actors Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Shin-rok, and Go Soo.

'The Hive' is a film about survivors isolated in a building called 'Doonguri', which is sealed off due to a mysterious infection outbreak. They fight against infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable ways.

Director Yeon introduced the film as "a work that can fully showcase the fun of my previous films 'Train to Busan' and 'Peninsula', while also featuring new types of zombies. It's a work with new excitement." He added, "The title refers to a group of the same kind of entities that organize a common body to live, resembling human society, and also refers to the mysterious infected individuals."

When asked about completing the star-studded lineup, Director Yeon expressed his unique feelings, saying, "I felt like a movie director." He humorously added, "I want to tell Yeon Sang-ho from 20 years ago that I'm making a movie with these actors. I don't think he would believe it."

In 'The Hive', Jun Ji-hyun plays the lead role. Her character, Kwon Se-jung, is a professor of biotechnology and the leader of the survivor group. Director Yeon shared a behind-the-scenes story of their first meeting. He said, "We had our first meeting at a cafe. The moment I entered the cafe, I wondered why a movie was being screened. The reason was that movie star Jun Ji-hyun was sitting there. Even the air felt like a movie."

Director Yeon highlighted Jun Ji-hyun's wide acting spectrum as her strength. He praised, "From 'My Sassy Girl' to 'Assassination', it's rare to find an actress who shows such a wide range of acting." He added, "What surprised me during the work was that she seemed to compress that wide spectrum of acting into one film. She can be cynical, playful, and serious. It felt like she condensed these feelings into one movie. She's not just a great actress and superstar for no reason. There's a reason for it."

'The Hive' is set to be released in May.
