Kim Dong-ho's Documentary 'Mr. Kim Goes to the Movies' Set for Exclusive Release at Megabox
'Mr. Kim Goes to the Movies' marks Kim Dong-ho's first feature-length documentary, capturing the current landscape of theaters and films through the eyes of a retired public official turned filmmaker. In the wake of the pandemic, Kim embarks on a journey with his camera, visiting theaters and international film festivals across various countries. He listens to the memories and current concerns of filmmakers he meets along the way.
'Mr. Kim Goes to the Movies' is a heartfelt chronicle of Kim Dong-ho's journey, reflecting on the essence of theaters and the sustainability of cinema. Produced by Sanai Pictures and distributed by Plus M Entertainment, the film aims to resonate with audiences.
Kim Dong-ho is celebrated as a cultural icon and a diplomat for Korean cinema. He has played a pivotal role in introducing Korean films, directors, and actors to international film festivals, helping to elevate the Busan International Film Festival to a leading position in Asia. While a documentary about his life, 'Young Man of Cinema, Dong-ho' (directed by Kim Liang), was invited to the 77th Cannes Film Festival in 2024, 'Mr. Kim Goes to the Movies' marks his first directorial venture.
The film will be available at Megabox starting February 19 and was also invited to the 'Special Screening' section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
Kim Dong-ho, a graduate of Seoul National University's law school, began his career in public service, holding positions such as the first president of the Seoul Arts Center, Vice Minister of Culture, Chairman of the Performance Ethics Committee, and President of the Korean Film Council. He was instrumental in founding the Busan International Film Festival, serving as its Executive Director for 15 years until 2010.
