Grand Bell Awards, 'Cobweb' Song Kang-ho vs 'Contopia' Lee Byung-hun → Ryu Seung-ryong, Song Hye-kyo will win?
The 59th Grand Bell Awards will be held at the Gyeonggi Arts Center Grand Theater in Suwon at 6 p.m. on the 15th. Actor Cha In-pyo and broadcaster Jang Do-yeon will serve as MCs.
A total of six works were nominated for the Best Picture Award, a representative award, including 'Cobweb', 'Concrete Utopia', 'Smuggling', 'Owl', 'Sleep', and 'Daum Sohee'. Expectations are high to see which film the Grand Bell Award, which values artistic quality, will support. A brief overview of the nominated works is as follows.
'Cobweb', which was screened at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, is a film about what happens when director Kim, who believes that if he re-films the ending of the movie 'Cobweb', which was filmed in the 1970s, it will be a masterpiece, shoots it under adverse conditions that are on the verge of going crazy. As it was invited to the Cannes Film Festival, its work was recognized by world filmmakers.
Also, 'Concrete Utopia' is a disaster drama that depicts the story that begins with survivors gathering in the only remaining palace apartment in Seoul, which has been devastated by a major earthquake. Recently, 'Concrete Utopia' was unanimously selected by the judges as the Korean film entry in the International Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards.
'Smuggling' is a maritime criminal activity in which people who make a living by salvaging daily necessities thrown into the sea are caught up in the events of their lives as a major event unfolds in front of them. It entered the overseas film market through leading film festivals around the world, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Locarno International Film Festival, and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, and was very popular among overseas film festivals.
'Owl', which was the most noteworthy work in the first half of this year, is a thriller depicting the one-night struggle of Gyeongsu, a blind acupuncturist who can only see at night, with King Injo to uncover the truth after witnessing the death of Crown Prince Sohyeon. This work was also recognized for its artistic value and popularity, winning three awards at the Youngpyeong Awards.
'Sleep' is a film about two people who struggle to unravel the mystery of husband Hyun-su's strange behavior during sleep that haunts the happy newlyweds Hyun-soo and Su-jin like a nightmare, and the secret of the terrible fear that begins the moment they fall asleep. This debut film by director Yoo Jae-seon, known as Bong Joon-ho's kid, achieved box office success beyond expectations.
The last candidate, 'Next Sohee', depicts the powerful story of an incident that Sohee, a confident 18-year-old high school student, experiences while going on field training, and the detective Eugene who investigates it, who encounters it in the same space but at a different time. This work, which attracted great attention in the domestic film industry, also enjoyed the honor of the Best Picture Award at this year's Film Awards.

‘Concrete Utopia’ and ‘Spider’s Nest’ are attracting attention by being nominated in both the Best Director and Best Screenplay categories.
Kim Jong-soo ('Smugglers'), Go Gyu-pil ('Crime City 3'), Park Jung-min ('Smugglers'), Kang Ki-young ('Negotiation'), and Oh Jeong-se ('Cobweb') were nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Award, and Na Moon-hee ('Spider's Nest') was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Award. As a result of selecting award candidates, out of a total of 26 categories, 'Cobweb' received the most nominations with 14, followed by 'Smuggling' with 12.
Meanwhile, the candidates who have gone through an independent review by the preliminary review panel over the past month will be selected with the participation of the main review panel and a 100-person national review panel to select the winners and winners.
