Kang Ki-young "Pashto, no one will know if it's perfect"
On the afternoon of the 13th, a press preview screening of the movie 'Negotiation' (directed by Im Soon-rye) was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Actors Hwang Jung-min, Hyun Bin, Kang Ki-young, and director Im Sun-rye attended the press conference held after the preview.
'Negotiation' is a movie depicting the negotiation operation between a diplomat and a local National Intelligence Service agent who went to Afghanistan to rescue Koreans who were taken hostage by the Taliban in the worst kidnapping incident.
Kang Ki-young played the role of Kasim in the play. Kasim, whose name is Lee Bong-han, is a weedy Korean who survived in the back alleys of Afghanistan.
On this day, Kang Ki-young made people laugh by saying, “Actually, no one will know if Pashto is perfect.” He said, "I did my best to study. I did my best with a native English teacher. The teacher even came to the filming set. He corrected me and pointed out my pronunciation."
He continued, "Because it was an unfamiliar language, I couldn't learn it while fully understanding the meaning. I memorized some things, like song lyrics and rap. I memorized Pashto two years ago, so I thought I could start filming again next week. But after watching the movie, I realized there was a lot. “I don’t think I can do it again,” he added, making people burst into laughter.
Kang Ki-young laughed, saying, “The actor who played the role of the commander-in-chief in the movie is from Afghanistan. I remember feeling proud when he said to me, ‘I think you know what I’m talking about,’ at one point while I was speaking my lines.”
Meanwhile, 'Negotiation' will be released on the 18th.
