Ryu Kyung-soo reminisced about Kang Soo-yeon, with whom he worked on the Netflix movie 'Jeong-i'.

On the 26th, I met Ryu Kyung-soo, who appeared in the Netflix movie 'Jeong-i', at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.

Ryu Kyung-soo plays the role of Sang-hoon, the head of a research institute who must succeed in developing combat AI. Ryu Kyung-soo appeared in this work along with Kim Hyun-joo and the late Kang Soo-yeon.

Kim Hyun-joo played the role of Yoon Jeong-i, a subject for brain cloning to develop the best combat AI. Kang Soo-yeon takes on the role of Yoon Seo-hyeon, a team leader at a research lab that develops brain cloning and AI technology. Seohyun Yoon is also the daughter of the human Jeongyi Yoon.

Ryu Kyung-soo also worked with director Yeon Sang-ho and Kim Hyun-joo through 'Hell'. Ryu Kyung-soo said, "Director Sang-ho Yeon, senior Soo-yeon Kang, senior Kim Hyeon-ju, and I became close through frequent gatherings."

How would Kang Soo-yeon react if she saw ‘Jeong-i’ come out into the world? Ryu Kyung-soo said, "He really wanted to see (the work). When it was released, he would have asked us to rent a place somewhere and gather together to watch it. He would never have passed it up, saying, 'We should do something together on a day like this.' He also had strong leadership. “It’s a pity that I can’t do that anymore,” he said, missing Kang Soo-yeon. When I told him that I would think of him more often as the work became public, he said, "That's right. There are things that come to mind all of a sudden."

Ryu Kyung-soo shared the story behind their first meeting, saying, "Senior was like a great actor who existed only in legends and was only told about in stories. I wondered what I would do if he scolded me for not being able to act." He continued, “When I first met him, he greeted me brightly. It was as if we knew each other. I was nervous and trembled.” Also, "The director and the four of us ended up drinking. I got up to go to the bathroom for a moment and left, and after the door closed, I heard my senior say, 'He's so good' and 'He's so attractive.' As I was going to the bathroom, the corners of my mouth went up.' “I thought, ‘Oh, I lived.’ I was happy at that time,” he said with a smile.

It is said that Kang Soo-yeon cared for and took good care of her juniors on set. Ryu Kyung-soo laughed, saying, "I was in charge of the senior's snacks on set. He said everything was delicious. I only gave him delicious food."

Ryu Kyung-soo talked about Kang Soo-yeon's generous side, saying, "If you had seen it, I think you would have praised (the juniors) a lot. He never said anything negative." When asked about his impressions of directly acting with Kang Soo-yeon, Ryu Kyung-soo said, "She is an actress who has been working for a long time and has left behind many achievements, isn't she? 'What if she's picky?', 'What if she's too perfect?' I was very worried. But my senior never said anything he disliked. On the contrary, I received a lot of help. I think he saved me a lot in terms of acting. He allowed me to have more fun (inside the camera). It was the same as a person. “I am grateful and wanted to express my gratitude more, but I feel sad,” he said.

'Jeong-i' ranked first in the non-English language movie category on Netflix with 19.3 million hours watched (January 16-22). For Ryu Kyung-soo, this work is also meaningful in that he worked with good seniors. He said, "There were good results, but perhaps because I'm young, I think the process is more important than the result. Like the scene of 'Jeong-i', in the process of laughing and having fun, and in human relationships, people are considerate of each other without forcing each other. Such a good process. "If you go through this, you want to keep meeting even if the results are disappointing. We can also work together. I believe in the power of the process," he said.

'Jeong-i' is a science fiction film that tells the story of people who try to develop the best combat AI by cloning the brain of the legendary mercenary 'Jeong-i' in order to end the war that broke out in the shelter where they migrated away from the Earth devastated by climate change. It was released on Netflix on the 20th.
