According to distributor NEW on the 11th, 'Soul Mate Friends Talk' was held at the entrance of Lotte Cinema Konkuk University in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the 9th. Director Min Yong-geun, Jeon So-ni's close friend Jeon Yeo-bin, and Movement CEO Jin Myeong-hyeon attended the event and had a pleasant time.
Jeon Yeo-bin said, "There are a lot of good people around Sonny, so I said, 'I'll ask other people and if they don't do it, I'll do it,' and she said, 'My best sister is my sister, so I hope she can do it.'" expressed affection.
Jeon Yeo-bin revealed that she watched the movie twice for this talk and said, "Even when the ending credits rolled, I couldn't get up easily. Looking at the relationship between Ha-eun and Miso, I was filled with countless memories and times of relationships that were by my side or that I had missed. This came to mind. Ha-eun’s face was the face of Sonny, whom I love.”
CEO Jin Myung-heon made people laugh by saying, "I also have a special affection for this work. In particular, I am the main character who cannot be left out in the story of the special meeting between Jeon So-ni and director Min Yong-geun." He continued, "'Soulmate' and 'Hyehwa, Dong' are very similar yet different movies. I feel that director Min Yong-geun has thought more deeply about women's relationships and emotions now than then."
He also praised actor Jeon So-ni, saying, "I often think of him as a quiet, penetrating person. When I drew Jin-woo's picture, it was nice to see the actor's real will and determination." In fact, Jeon So-ni and director Min Yong-geun revealed that they became 'soul mates' through this work. Director Min Yong-geun expressed his affection for Ha-eun, saying, “She is an actress who knows how to express Ha-eun in more delicate and appropriate terms than me.”
Director Min Yong-geun explained, "Every time I saw Ha-eun's favorite face, it changed, and it felt like emotions were flooding in. I liked Jeon So-ni's faces that revealed her deep and multi-layered emotions, so I thought I suggested casting her." did. Jeon So-ni also said, "When I meet someone who is sincere enough to be childish while working, I feel very welcome and reassured. The director was like that to me. When we first started working together, the director said, 'It's time to reflect on whether I still want to make movies.' “I really enjoy working with people like these,” he responded.
There was also time to answer questions about the movie and share individual opinions. When asked if Ha-eun's reference to Jin-woo's heart before drawing it was influenced by Mi-so's drawing of her cat's mother's heart as a child, Jeon So-ni said, "I like the scenes between young Mi-so and Ha-eun the best." “It’s a scene like that. Regardless of whether you’re young or old, when you meet a new person, you step into a different world, and I thought that that moment between young Miso and Ha-eun was the moment when they stepped into each other’s world.”
Not only that, Jeon So-ni replied, "I think he thought it was a way of communication that only we could perfectly understand. So, when I found someone I liked other than Miso, I think the first thing I wanted to do was draw." Next, Jeon Yeo-bin said, "Ha-eun's name, 'Gentle Summer,' was so interesting. To me, summer is not gentleness, but boiling over. Ha-eun is a courageous person, so rather than expressing her will, she puts down her own will and relies more on the will of others." “I thought he was someone who gave me the courage to manifest myself,” he said.
Finally, in response to Jeon Yeo-bin's question about how she feels about sending her beloved 'soulmate' off into the world and leaving him behind, director Min Yong-geun said, "This is a movie that personally involved a lot of things while preparing. I can see their faces and smiles in real life. "I think the processes of Ha-eun breaking up, someone leaving, and meeting new people are very intertwined. At the beginning of the promotional period, I said, 'I love this movie.' Of course, I love all movies, but it came to me in a slightly different way."
Jeon So-ni said, "I am also an audience member who values watching movies in the theater. So I really wanted to show this movie in the theater. I hope it will remain in the audience's memory for a long time, and I hope that this memory will be good and that they will show affection for all my movies as well. “I hope so. I wanted to say that I am grateful that you look at our story and stay and listen to it, and that it is a great help to you,” he said.
Meanwhile, 'Soul Mate' is the story of two friends, Miso (played by Da-mi Kim), Ha-eun (played by So-ni Jeon), and Jin-woo (played by Woo-seok Byun), who recognized each other from their first meeting and shared everything together, including joy, sadness, excitement, and longing.
