Song Joong-ki's noir 'Dwarf' invited to Cannes
The movie ‘Hwaran’ (director Kim Seong-hoon) was selected as an invited film in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section of the 76th Cannes International Film Festival.

On the 14th, PlusM Entertainment, which invests in and distributes 'Hwaran', announced this news. 'Hwaran' is a noir drama depicting the story of a boy Yeon-gyu (played by Hong Sa-bin) who wants to escape from the hellish reality, meets the middle boss of an organization, Chi-Geon (played by Song Joong-ki), and ends up in a dangerous world together.

‘Un Certain Regard’, to which ‘Dwaran’ was invited, is an official section of the Cannes International Film Festival that focuses on works with outstanding originality and aesthetic achievement. Korean films that previously received an invitation to this category included director Yoon Jong-bin's 'Unforgiven' (2005), director Bong Joon-ho's 'Mother' (2009), director Na Hong-jin's 'Yellow Sea' (2010), and director Kim Ki-duk's 'Arirang' (2011). ), etc.

'Hwaran' is director Kim Chang-hoon's first feature film and stars Hong Sa-bin, Song Joong-ki, and Kim Hyeong-seo (Bibi). Sanai Pictures acted as the main production company, and Hijium Studio and PlusM Entertainment participated as co-productions.

Hong Sa-bin, who plays the main character Yeon-gyu, is a new actor who showed impressive acting in 'Vacation', which was invited to the 17th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival, and 'Heat Wave', which won the grand prize in the youth-college student category at the 10th Chungmuro Short Film Festival. He delicately portrayed the emotions of an 18-year-old boy entering a rough world.

Song Joong-ki, who played the role of the organization's mid-boss Chi-Geon, became a hot topic by deciding to appear without guarantee with the intention of creating a good work together. Even though the drama is being led by a new actor playing a more important role than Song Joong-ki himself, he willingly expressed his willingness to participate, saying that he wanted to contribute to the work as a senior and colleague. As he participated passionately, he plays a strong character in the play and reveals a new charm that has never been shown before.

Singer and actor Kim Hyeong-seo (BB), who was selected through a highly competitive audition, played the role of Yeon-gyu's younger brother Hayan in the play.

With the entry of 'The Hwaran' into the Cannes Film Festival, PlusM Entertainment will be stepping on the Cannes red carpet for the second year in a row since last year. The work that was invited to the Cannes Film Festival last year was director Lee Jung-jae's 'Hunt', which was introduced in the midnight screening section.

PlusM Entertainment said, "'Hwaran' is a work created with the purpose of discovering talented and excellent filmmakers and giving audiences a different emotion and fun from existing commercial films. We can show the good purpose of the work on a stage where the world is paying attention. “It’s an honor to be here,” he said.

Meanwhile, 'Hwaran' is preparing to be released in theaters this year after cranking up in December last year.
