MOVIE
What should we do with Korean movies that are being overtaken by the U.S. and lost by Japan?

It is unclear whether 'Dream' will be able to protect its share of the pie due to the momentum of 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' and 'Super Mario Bros.', which have huge capital invested and huge fandoms. We looked into the stories of the film industry, including directors, actors, and officials, in these difficult times.

“The directors and people around me are all feeling a huge sense of crisis. Right now, there are no movies for you or mine. Everyone believes that Korean movies should do well. There are many people who wonder if ‘Dream’ can be a relief pitcher. , I feel pressured to see if I can do that. However, even if I am not a relief pitcher, I think I should be able to block at least one inning as a relief pitcher. Still, I am looking forward to it because a lot of good movies are scheduled to come out in the summer. As a person working in this industry, How can I say it... it's very scary. It seems like a big change is taking place. I feel a lot of pressure about it."
Actress Jeon Do-yeon believed that revitalizing the 'OTT' and 'theater' two-track is important for the long-term development of Korean films. It is of the opinion that the global distribution of Korean films should be promoted through OTT and at the same time, marketing should be carried out to attract audiences to theaters to take care of the domestic market. Jeon Do-yeon answered a question about the slump in Korean movies in a recent interview with the Netflix movie 'Gil Bok-soon' (directed by Byun Seong-hyun).
"We've been through the Corona period for a lot longer than we thought. It's already been 3 years. During that time, people's tastes and lifestyle patterns have changed. OTT is what has taken over that situation. I think it will take time to change these trends and recover to how things were before. . These days, the number of movies being produced has decreased significantly, and many movie directors are going to OTT. However, I think the OTT platform has great power in promoting Korean movies. On the other hand, the situation in theaters is not good, so how can people come to theaters? “I think there is still work to be done in terms of changing the framework we have already become accustomed to in the COVID-19 situation.”

“I think Korean films should change the minds of Korean audiences and create reasons why they must go to the movie theater. Audiences already have too many reasons not to go to the movie theater. But ‘Avatar 2’ and ‘The First Slam Dunk’ Looking at the example of ', when a movie that meets the quality or expectations is released, the audience goes to the movie theater. Movies that meet the audience's expectations should continue to be released, and I think it is time for Korean film officials to join forces to achieve this. do."
Another official selected ‘lowering ticket prices’ as a specific plan. They are of the opinion that ticket prices, which had to be raised due to the unavoidable direct impact of the coronavirus, should be lowered back to the previous level. As social distancing measures have eased, ticket prices need to be lowered to attract more audiences to theaters.
"Now, each theater must make efforts to normalize ticket prices. Even if it was inevitable during the coronavirus pandemic, I think it is now necessary to lower ticket prices to pre-corona times to attract more audiences. At the same time, provide a satisfactory level of cinematic experience and “I think there is a need for special events that provide services in parallel.”
