On the 25th, a press conference for 'The Moon' (director Kim Yong-hwa) was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Director Kim Yong-hwa, actors Do Kyung-soo, Seol Kyung-gu, and Kim Hee-ae attended.
'The Moon' is a movie depicting the desperate struggle between Seon-woo (Do Kyung-soo), a space crew member stranded on the moon due to an accident, and Jae-gook (Sol Kyung-gu), the former head of the space center desperately trying to save him.
Actor Do Kyung-soo played the role of Hwang Seon-wu, who is left alone after the solar wind hits Woori due to a sunspot explosion. Actor Seol Kyung-gu took on the role of Kim Jae-guk, the former head of the center who was responsible for the Naraeho accident five years ago and was buried in a mountain. Actress Kim Hee-ae played the role of Yoon Moon-yeong, the main director of NASA's manned lunar orbiter. When asked how he felt about meeting director Kim Yong-hwa for the second time following the movie 'Along with the Gods' series, Do Kyung-soo said, "I was very happy at first." While filming the movie 'The Moon' this time, I actually communicated almost only with the director, and I think I had a lot of real exchanges."
He added, "We talked a lot about Sunwoo's emotions and things like that, and human instinctive emotions, and we were faithful to the scenario and really got very close to the director."
In addition, when asked about the difficulty of filming the swimming scene in the play, Do Kyung-soo said, "In fact, the wire was not one wire, but five or six wires tied together. The most difficult thing was to set the timing and do the swimming scene."
He said, “I think that the director pulled me so well that that was expressed in the movie. Seol Gyeong-gu said, "I was ashamed to think, 'I really ate raw.' There were about 100 agents stationed there. Not only the important parts of the set were built, but all the sets were built. In some cases, actor Do Kyung-soo filmed while watching the scenes taken in advance. There were many. In the case of the meteor shower scene, I proceeded with the filming while watching the rough CG shot. It was so helpful that I mistook it for the place when I came to the scene."
In particular, Seol Kyung-gu appears in the film as Kim Hee-ae's ex-husband and helps each other. Kim Hee-ae explained about acting and breathing with Seol Kyung-gu, "I didn't meet at all, and there was no collaboration as I was looking at the wall. I received help while watching the filming in advance."
Seol Kyung-gu, who said that it was difficult to do the dialogue because there were a lot of technical terms as it dealt with the story of the universe, said, "The term is so difficult that I still can't understand it. I can't understand it well by looking at the pictures. I tried to do it. There are many people in Korea who are working hard in the space industry, but I don't think it makes sense to realize it after a few months."
He added, "I tried to focus on the situation. I tried to keep my emotions and reactions organic because I was drawing the process of saving Hwang Seon-woo, who was in distress in the universe." Kim Hee-ae, who digested many lines in English, said, “I wanted to act rationally when filming the last scene.” “When the camera turned and the cue sign turned, I really became Moon-young and directed the aliens while acting with the feeling that I was actually in it. I really liked and liked that scene." Director Kim Yong-hwa, who was chosen by a whopping 26 million viewers for the films 'National Representative' and 'Along with the Gods' Seasons 1 and 2, said, "For a while, I naturally paid attention to the keywords forgiveness, salvation, and consolation at this age, to the extent that I wondered if I had said the same story again. When I think about what the most valuable action is, I think I want to communicate with the audience more about giving forgiveness than about giving forgiveness.”
'The Moon' had to be filmed using CG and VFX as it embodies the moon. For that reason, Kim Yong-hwa said, "For the spacewalk scene, I wore a wire for the scene that was not awkward even with an actor. I started training for the spacewalk scene with actor Do Kyung-soo three months ago. "he explained.
He continued, "Rather, I wanted to show a great scene compared to Hollywood in terms of implementing VFX. However, when it was finished, the people were so good. After watching the movie, someone said, 'I hope people all love and live'. That way, the audience I hope that the film will come closer to people,” he added.
Also, regarding the direction and focus of the film, “I tried to show the bittersweet feelings of sadness but joy by being composed of multiple layers rather than a single layer. I think that Seon-woo (Do Kyung-soo)'s desire to live again is made up of a combination of various minds. The reason why I didn't bother highlighting the relationship between Seol Kyung-gu and Kim Hee-ae was to keep the emotions complex."
Director Kim showed confidence in Do Kyung-soo's space action, saying, "I wanted to show that actor Tom Cruise isn't the only one who is good at it."
Next, director Kim Yong-hwa said, “28 billion is not a small budget, but I think it is difficult to create this quality with this budget. Visually, such an evaluation is expected,” he emphasized, “compared to more than 100 billion Hollywood works, it does not lag behind.”
In addition, he emphasized that he created his own space movie, saying, "I have referred to space movies such as 'Interstellar', 'Gravity', and 'The Martian', but I did not watch them four years ago."
'The Moon' will be released on August 2nd.
