Actor Jin Tae-hyun Exits JTBC's 'Divorce Reflection Camp': A Closer Look at the Controversial Departure

Actor Jin Tae-hyun is set to leave the JTBC variety show 'Divorce Reflection Camp' after nearly two years. The production team explained the decision as part of "a new change and reorganization," but with co-hosts Park Ha-sun and Seo Jang-hoon remaining, Jin's departure has sparked various interpretations.

The news of Jin Tae-hyun's exit was announced on the 27th. A representative confirmed, "It is true that Jin Tae-hyun is leaving 'Divorce Reflection Camp.' The decision was made to bring new changes and reorganization after the show has been airing for about two years since 2024."

Reorganizing a program to refresh its flow is not uncommon in the broadcasting industry. Adjusting the format and cast is a typical process. However, with only Jin Tae-hyun leaving while Park Ha-sun and Seo Jang-hoon stay, it is difficult to gauge what specific changes "reorganization" entails.

Jin Tae-hyun joined 'Divorce Reflection Camp' in August 2024 after it became a regular program on JTBC. For about 1 year and 8 months, he played a key role as a husband-side investigator and couple psychodrama assistant, offering realistic advice to couples in conflict from a male perspective.

Viewers generally responded positively to his role. Jin Tae-hyun was praised for his deep involvement in marital conflicts and providing practical advice, earning him the reputation of a "clearly defined cast member." A particularly memorable moment was when he shed tears while advising couples who took having children lightly, drawing significant attention on YouTube. Given his role and presence on the show, many are expressing regret over his departure.

Following the news of his exit, Jin Tae-hyun shared a handwritten letter on his social media expressing his disappointment. He stated, "I heard about the production team's decision through my manager," and added, "I worked harder and more sincerely than any other shoot in my 25-year entertainment career." Comments on the post included, "Opposed to the departure," "Why, production team?" and "Curious if this decision resonates with viewers."

There have been previous instances in the broadcasting industry where host changes due to reorganization have sparked controversy. Broadcasters Park Soo-hong and Choi Eun-kyung left a program they had hosted for 13 years last year. It was reported that the production team informed them of their departure in a notification manner, leading to criticism among some viewers as "an impolite forced departure."

Jin Tae-hyun's case brings similar concerns to mind. While the need for change was presented, the specifics of the change were not sufficiently explained, leaving viewers with the question, "Why?"

Of course, not all internal matters of a program can be disclosed to the public. Format changes, internal planning, direction, and cast composition fall under the production team's discretion. However, since broadcasting is built on trust with the audience, there is a lingering regret that a minimum explanation for the departure of a key cast member was necessary.

Actor Lee Dong-gun has been chosen as Jin Tae-hyun's successor. His segments are set to air starting in July.
