KwakTube Addresses Postpartum Care Sponsorship Controversy with Apology and Donation

KwakTube (Kwak Jun-bin) has issued an apology regarding the controversy over his postpartum care sponsorship. KwakTube married his civil servant wife, who is five years younger, at a hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, last October, and announced the birth of their son on the 24th of last month.

On the 10th, KwakTube posted a lengthy message on his personal YouTube channel, stating, "I feel heavy-hearted for causing concern due to the recent controversy surrounding my use of postpartum care services."

He explained, "After my spouse's delivery, I received a room upgrade and some services as a sponsorship from the care center. I initially disclosed the sponsorship on social media but later realized it could cause misunderstandings about the extent of the sponsorship, so I revised the content."

He continued, "Since my spouse is a civil servant, I sought legal advice after the controversy arose and confirmed that the sponsorship was a private contract between me and the care center, unrelated to my spouse's duties. However, I deeply regret not being more cautious as a family member of a public official. I will sincerely explain if any procedural clarifications are needed in the future."

He added, "This incident has made me reflect on myself and those around me. I am donating 30 million won to support single mothers, a cause I've long cared about, and I have paid the full difference for the sponsored services to the postpartum care center."

KwakTube concluded, "I will strive to consider and practice not only legal standards but also social responsibilities more deeply. I apologize once again to everyone who felt uncomfortable."

Previously, on the 1st, KwakTube shared a review of his postpartum care experience on his social media, tagging the location with the word "sponsorship." However, as of the 8th, the "sponsorship" label was removed, leading to various interpretations.

Regarding this, SM C&C, his agency, clarified, "It was not a full sponsorship, only a room upgrade was provided as a sponsorship," and explained, "There were many misunderstandings, so the wording was removed."

Following the post, the cost of the postpartum care center used by KwakTube's family became a hot topic. The facility is known to charge approximately 25 million won for a two-week stay and about 45 million won for a four-week stay in its most luxurious rooms.
