Celebrity Wedding Absences Stir Rumors: A Closer Look at the Speculations
Recently, rumors of discord arose when Shinhwa's Shin Hye-sung did not attend fellow member Lee Min-woo's wedding. Lee Min-woo married third-generation Korean-Japanese Lee Ami on the 29th at a hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. All Shinhwa members except Shin Hye-sung attended, leading to speculation about a rift. Previously, Shin Hye-sung had attended Andy's wedding despite a leg injury, fueling further speculation about his absence this time. In response, Kim Dong-wan took to social media on the 31st, stating, "Why attach meaning to someone's choice to live quietly? It's their life. They owe no explanations."
However, there are reasons why Shin Hye-sung might have been cautious about attending. In October 2022, he was arrested for driving under the influence in Seoul and received a six-month suspended sentence. He also faced a DUI charge in April 2007 and was fined for overseas gambling. Attending the wedding might have shifted focus from the groom, Lee Min-woo, to Shin Hye-sung's controversies.
Secret's Song Ji-eun's wedding also saw similar speculation when Han Sun-hwa was the only member absent, sparking rumors of discord. Personal circumstances are often overlooked, and absence is equated with conflict.
Ultimately, weddings, which are private events, are being used as indicators of relationships. Even if there is discord, it remains a personal matter. Society should focus on celebrating the marriage itself rather than speculating about relationships.
