Shinhwa's Kim Dong-wan Issues Apology Amid Recent Controversies
On October 24, Kim Dong-wan took to his personal social media account to express his apologies, stating, "I deeply apologize to everyone who may have felt uncomfortable due to recent events." He added, "If my words and actions caused discomfort, it is entirely my responsibility. I should have been more cautious, and I sincerely reflect on my actions. Moving forward, I will be more responsible with my words and actions."
The controversy began on October 21 when Kim Dong-wan posted, "Who wants to support Dingdong for no reason?" tagging MC Dingdong's account. This came under scrutiny as Dingdong was recently accused of assaulting a female BJ during an internet broadcast. Following criticism, Kim Dong-wan deleted the post and explained, "It was an expression that did not fully consider the situation."
The situation escalated when a former manager, referred to as A, made additional allegations online, claiming issues with Kim Dong-wan's character and his withdrawal from a musical. A stated, "I don't know if you remember calling me a sociopath, but you should understand yourself before judging others."
In response, Kim Dong-wan refuted the claims, stating, "The content currently being circulated is false and misleading." He announced plans for legal action, indicating a firm stance. A also warned of further responses, stating, "I remained silent to avoid escalating the situation."
On the same day he posted the apology, October 24, Kim Dong-wan held an outdoor busking performance at the Grass Square in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. This marked his first public appearance with fans since the apology.
During the performance, Kim Dong-wan did not specifically address the controversies. He remarked, "Thank you for coming to this noisy place. It will continue to be noisy," and concluded with, "If everyone was noisy, I would have become quiet."
