Sechs Kies' Jang Su-won's Wife Faces Parenting Criticism Amid Viral Video Controversy
On September 29, a short video titled 'Unexpected Scene in Bali' was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Jang Suwon Hae-yo.'
In the video, Jang Su-won is seen visiting a water park with his wife and their young daughter. Jang Su-won slides down a waterslide with his daughter seated in front of him. Upon landing, he lifts the child, but both briefly submerge in the water as Jang Su-won goes under.
Jang Su-won quickly stands up with his daughter and checks her face. However, the startled child begins to cry. Although she soon stops crying, Jang Su-won's wife expresses her frustration, exclaiming, "Oh, honey!" and continues to scold him, saying, "What are you doing?" and "I told you not to let her drink the water."
Even after Jang Su-won apologizes and comforts his daughter while exiting the pool, his wife remains upset, questioning, "Why did you do that?" and reiterating her discontent, "I told you not to let her drink the pool water." She is also seen burying her face in a towel, appearing emotional.
As of 2:30 PM on the 5th, the video has garnered 3.08 million views. Over 4,000 comments include reactions such as "The mom crying is an overreaction," "Jang Su-won must be having a hard time," "This shows how overly cautious they are with the child," and "Why not keep the child in the womb until she's 20 if they're so worried?"
As the controversy intensified, the production team addressed the situation on October 3 by pinning a comment at the top of the video, stating, "The wife did not cry. The atmosphere at the time was not serious, which is why we uploaded the video." They added, "We are a normal, loving family, but the editing may have created a serious tone. We will be more careful in the future."
Meanwhile, Jang Su-won married stylist Ji Sang-eun, who is one year his senior, in 2021. After nine attempts at IVF, they welcomed their daughter in 2024.
