Meanwhile, the late Seo Hee-won passed away suddenly from acute pneumonia during a family trip to Japan in February last year. Koo Jun-yup is known to visit her grave at Geumbosan Cemetery daily to clean the tombstone.

Koo Jun-yup and the late Seo first met in 1998 and dated for about a year. However, due to opposition from Koo's agency, he ended the relationship. Seo Hee-won later married a Chinese businessman in 2011 and had a son and a daughter, but divorced in 2021. Upon hearing this, Koo Jun-yup called her using the phone number he remembered from 20 years ago, leading to their reunion and marriage.
