Korean Music Copyright Association Apologizes Amid Allegations of Misconduct by Senior Staff
On the 30th, KOMCA released an official statement revealing that senior staff members allegedly established a separate entity and potentially profited from businesses related to the association's duties. KOMCA considers these allegations serious and has immediately dismissed the individuals from their positions and placed them on standby. An emergency board meeting was convened, and a special investigation committee, comprising board members and auditors, has been initiated to preserve evidence and records.
KOMCA emphasized that this issue is not seen as an isolated incident but as a responsibility of the entire organization to prevent future occurrences. The association pledged to cooperate fully with inspections by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, national audits, and police investigations, and to take necessary legal actions based on the outcomes.
KOMCA expressed concern over the spread of misinformation due to some media reports and unverified claims. The association stated, "The budget approved by members has been executed according to relevant regulations and procedures. If any shortcomings are found in the execution process, we will promptly rectify and recover them, holding those responsible accountable." They also vowed to respond firmly to false claims or distorted information according to the law and principles.
Chairman Choo Ga-yeol stated, "We will take this incident as a painful lesson to transform the association into a more transparent and accountable institution. As chairman, I will fulfill all responsibilities to restore member trust while continuing our core duties of collection and distribution without disruption."
