IU Embraces Weight Gain and Prepares for Upcoming Drama Role

Singer and actress IU recently expressed her satisfaction with her weight gain.

On the 30th, IU's official YouTube channel released a video titled 'IU TV: Jieun's Cheek Season.' In the video, IU visited a rehearsal site ahead of a fan meetup. She warmly greeted the session musicians and charmed everyone with her performances of 'Red Shoes,' 'Dream of the Square,' and 'Name.'

During practice, IU noticed a camera placed in front of the microphone and asked, "What's the meaning of this angle?" A staff member explained, "It's because you said you didn't have makeup on, so we put up a screen." IU laughed, saying, "You've perfectly covered my eyes, nose, and mouth." Checking her face in the camera, she remarked, "Doesn't my face look better?" and confessed, "I've gained weight." When a staff member responded, "Gain a bit more," the room filled with laughter.

Once known for her 'skinny as a bone' appearance, IU shared, "Gaining a little weight seems to have made me look better. I've been told I look prettier on camera."

Meanwhile, IU is set to star in the upcoming MBC drama '21st Century Grand Lady,' scheduled to air in 2026. The drama is set in a constitutional monarchy in South Korea and tells the story of a woman who has everything but is dissatisfied with her status as a 'commoner,' and a prince who can have nothing. The drama promises a captivating tale of breaking social barriers, with IU starring alongside Byun Woo-seok, Noh Sang-hyun, and Gong Seung-yeon.
